  1. Sorry Chris, I don't have an oshigata or know which Kanji are used. I believe he is listed in the Gendaito meikan p.204 unfortunately we can't read Japanese. Also I believe his name is Tamamoto Morishige.
  2. Does anyone have any information on a Gendai Smith, Yoshimori? I believe he died in the 1930s. Any information on School, teacher, ranking etc would be most appreciated.
  3. Welcome Adam, I hope your collecting goes well.
  4. Sword has been withdrawn.
  5. If the paper is Shinteisho, that would be because the sword is Suriage.
  6. I wrote to him suggesting the sword was suriage. He wrote back, that the sword was made that way, as it is a copy of a Nambokucho style sword and therefore, definitely Ubu. Hmmmmm. He hasn't put the question or the answer on his listing.
  7. According to the Oshigata in John Sloughs book, he didn't do Kiri.
  8. The seller of this sword http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0827230715, claims it to be Ubu. What do you think?
  9. G'day Mark and welcome.
  10. Need to see the tang Marzio.
  11. I've always found natural light, holding the blade down at about 45 degrees.
  12. In Japanese swords, there always exceptions.
  13. Mark, I'm a really lousy photographer and only have a basic camera.
  14. Clive, you have mistaken a quote by Paul for me.
  15. These WW11 mumei blades come made in the traditional and non-traditional manner. First see if there is any Hada. If so, then probably a traditional hand made blade. Unfortunately Mumei Gendai (traditionally made) blades are extremely hard to find the maker.
  16. Happy new year from Oz. Wishing all the NMB members a great year to come.
  17. I was told that by someone who read it on the sword forum in Japan. Not trying to spread rumours, just checking.
  18. A very nice example of a shingunto and accoutrements.
  19. Clive, that was well said. I have two swords that are not Gendaito. Well one is a transition piece, as he began in Shin Shinto. This is a Bungo Hidenaga dated 1904. The other is a Koyama Munetsugu, which I managed to pick up at an arms fair very cheap. I have no qualms about collecting from any period, I have just been fortunate that, in collecting Gendaito, many good examples have and still come my way. PS Yesterday I picked up a Kanetoki (Kojima Kanemichi's first signature) with a Horimono.
  20. I've been collecting for 20yrs and have always stored my swords vertically. Most of my friends store theirs vertically as well.
  21. Bye the bye, isn't Tsuruta in Gaol?
  22. Gendaito here. Began collecting after selling my original collection of Shinto an Koto. Thought I would just dabble in Gendaito, however, I have managed to acquire some wonderful example which set me on the road.
