  1. Tango (Tamba?) (no) kami Kanemichi
  2. What appears to me in these latter comments, by Henk-Jan and Kunitaro san, is Shintoism( kami( more than soul)), mixed with Buddhism (Karma (the sword finds you)), to propagate some form of mysticism. If we take it from the Buddhist perspective, the soul, does not exist.
  3. Pressure from the retail section.
  4. Well done Mark.
  5. George, maybe they just think we all come from convict stock?
  6. Like always, each sword must be judged on it's own merit.
  7. Three things not to mention on customs dec. Sword, dagger or knife. These three terms trigger customs. Apparently, it's illegal to import a double edged sword. So if sword is written on the dec. instant flag. Next comes dagger or knife. Whilst it is legal to own or buy these items, for some strange reason, customs wont allow them without a lot of paper work. So if one writes, Nihonto, or Tanto, this doesn't raise any flags, and the item goes through, relatively smooth.
  8. First one, Noshu ju Kanenobu. You need to turn the photos around the other way. Very hard to read upside down.
  9. You're probably right Chris. I couldn't find the original article and was going by (a rather bad) memory.
  10. According to Clive Sinclair's article, The story of the different scripts, was told to him by Shigemasa. According to John Slough, Shigemasa left Shigetsugu's forge in 1932. I have a Shigetsugu with Soshu script, made in 1938. This sword recieved NTHK Kanteisho origami.
  11. As this is a translation assistance page, I can't help but wonder why one would become peeved at someone requesting assistance? If one doesn't want to help, fine. Though I don't understand the angst. There are members here who don't mind helping and don't criticise.
  12. G'day Matt and welcome.
  13. Name, Kaneko Tatsuichiro. Changed his name to Margoroku. Born, Jan 1924. Studied under Wantanabe Kanenaga, at eh Nihonto Tanren Juku (private school for forging Japanese swords). Named 27th generation Kanemoto in 1944. A direct descendant of the Tokuin Schools Kaneko Margaroku. He was a Kaigun Jumei Tosho during WW2
  14. Bruno, no they are not special.
  15. George, have you tried Camellia oil (Tsubaki)?
  16. Welcome Daniel, from another Gendaito collector.
  17. G'day George, I don't know about meths. Gordon Robson demonstrated at his house, the use of, Isopropyl alcohol. He doesn't use Uchiko. He wipes the blades clean with the Alcohol, then re-oils them, when putting them away. Also, all the blades he showed us, were polished. I use 99.5% Isopropyl. This can be bought on the net(ebay), or, more expensively, at a chemist.
