  1. A lot of people are now using, 99.5%(or above) Isopropyl Alcohol, instead of Uchiko. I was first put on to it when I was in Japan in 2009.
  2. As Kenji Mishina said at this years Yakatabune, please stop oiling your swords, so I can stay in business.
  3. I use Camellia oil.
  4. I was just taking the Mickey Chris. I made the part up about not wanting to be seen. The rest is true though.
  5. Also, they don't want people to see how quickly they look at the swords. Saying that though, if there is any irregularities that aren't immediately discernible, they do devote more time. But don't forget, they go through quite a few swords every hour.
  6. I must concur with George as regards to Yasukuni swords and Seki swords. I have a sword by Yasutoku (Yasunori) and I believe some of my Seki swords are better. But here I am diverging from the topic. No I haven't seen a Yasukuni sword in 44mounts.
  7. Hi George, I was there this year and also saw this dealer. Whilst I didn't check all of his swords, nothing was of really high quality. One seller though, had a Gassan Sadakazu(ichi) and a Sumtani Masamine. He didn't tell me the price of the Masmine (and I didn't ask) but he wanted 1900000 yen for the Gassan.
  8. It was a pleasure Barry, meeting you and your wife. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

    Sword Kantei

Echizen Rai. I've seen one similar.
  10. I've seen Alan's Sadamitsu and I was very surprised. I saw it before it was polished and also thought it was Ayasugi. However, seeing it polished, I agree with Alan, Yamato tradition with fantastic flowing Masame and heaps of Hataraki.
  11. Just bought a new camera. Unfortunately, my photography is crap. However, I shall endeavour.
  12. I'm arriving in Tokyo, on the 24th and staying until the 30th. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Also I am looking forward to the Yakatabume.
  13. Joe, I was fortunate to acquire a sword by Okimasa's Brother. Tsukamoto Masakazu. Although he wasn't a member of Shigetugu's school. He was the head of the Tsukamoto.
  14. Welcome to our new members.
  15. More a catalyst than a prop.
  16. I met John in2006, lovely man, he will be missed.
  17. Welcome John C and Kimmo.
  18. Yeah sorry, just realised this the same guy who posted them all a couple of weeks ago.
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/COLLECTABLE-RAR ... 232c028152 Well?
  20. Of course you're right Jean.
  21. Nick, like the stock market, Nihonto prices fluctuate. In Oz( and we have a fairly stable economy) things (sword business) have slowed dramatically in the last year, esp. the last 6mnths.
  22. Jean, I have also bought a sword at the DTI, through Sokendo. Yes, of course bargains are to be found. However, I'm curious of the overall sales at these two shows this year. Will the Japanese dealers lower their prices? Or will they try an tough it out? e.g. Will they ask 1,000,000yen for something one may Buy in America for $8000?
  23. Jean, Japan is suffering a downturn as well. I wasn't referring to quality, curious about the sales.
  24. By the Nakago, maybe Shinshinto.
