  1. Damn! How many old people did you need to kill to steal their fillings to get that much nuggets? :D
  2. I don’t think it is without X-raying the blade. Alternatively, you can saw your sword in two and look at the construction then use superglue to put it back together! :lol
  3. More Muromachi than Kanbun imho
  4. ...and it would fit with the “ unfinished blades” sent to Tokyo, whatever unfinished means. Could be raw, unpolished blades that got stamped after polishing was completed, or finished blades that had still to pass a final qc inspection then sent off for koshirae fitting... loads of possibilities when you come to think of it.
  5. Hey, posting these, for those who still have the, would be fun! I’ll post mine tomorrow!
  6. Showato... remounted in a Edo era koshirae. Even when I bought it, i suspected it was a Showato but it took me some time to be sure of it, having no one to ask. But it was cheap and I still have it, and will keep it because you can never forget what you feel the first time. I felt like King Arthur having found Excalibur!
  7. Please someone gives me a time machine!

    Muramasa Naginata?

Oh yes, I think it is nice too! I personally am not good enough to dismiss it as a Muramasa. I can see some of the characteristics here, but who am I to say if it is gimei or not? To me, the site seems legit. Here’s the link: https://www.lesabrejaponais.ch/naginata-signee-muramasa/ What I think is strange is that it hasn’t sold yet and that it isn’t papered, but it’s a very good looking naginata.

    Muramasa Naginata?

I’ve seen this blade many times on a Swiss sword shop. It’s price is reasonable, maybe too much, and it’s been for sale for more than a year now, so...
  10. Yeah, that was my thought too but wanted other input. Another question, in the wrong section, but since we’re talking restauration, why not push things further. In another thread about a 1944 tanto, someone suggested using finger stones to correct a blemish on a ha. I’ve always wondered, though here again never had the guts is using hazuya and nugui on a sword in good yet old polish would do anything to “refresh” the polish?
  11. It’s a great question here. Now, I’m more of a hoarder than a seller and keep everything I get because they’re part of my life and all of them means a special moment in it. Sooooo..... to my question: I don’t see rewarding as an issue personally, but what is the general consensus about repainting where paint has come off? I’ve often been tempted to do so, but never had the guts.
  12. Funny, Chris, but we’ve had the same idea, I recently read “the sword of Japan” and one chapter gave me that idea. Of course, it would only work as a general purpose key chart, but unless the sword is a “trick sword” (a sword from a tradition but with unclear characteristics), it should help beginners come with a broad idea of what they have. But so far, I still have to put that down on paper, so you’re more advanced than I am.
  13. Looks like a classic, oil tempered, Seki gunto to me.
  14. You’re welcome, Bruce.
  15. I tried to get it even closer.. not sure I succeeded though.
  16. Hey, that’s my sword!

    Old Wakizashi

Hard to say with so few pics. The shape reminds me of pre kanbun Shinto, but I’m no expert.
  18. Thanks a lot for the link, Grey!
  19. Any place we can get this in Europe?
  20. I hope you win and there’s no reserve!
  21. It is a beautiful sword, Jussi. I wish I had the funds because it would be a no brainer.
  22. ... animated Gif (Robocop)
  23. Thanks Chris, Yes, I think this is my crown jewel so far! As for the thread talking about baleen, wisteria and rattan, here it is: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/4494-baleen-whale-wrapping-of-tsuka/
  24. My Sengo is like that. I think I read somewhere these sort of wrappings are made of rattan.
