  1. Sorry, but you guys should go look at the stuff of someone like Tsunami Dragon. Now, the Yokote are well defined and offset hamachi are frequent. This is typical 2018+ katana. They even use hazuya now.
  2. Don’t think there is foul play here.
  3. It’s done on purpose. Most Chinese katana are like that because of their habaki.
  4. It’s the kind of blade you’ll find on eBay for about $200, so your seller is a con artist. Great cutter, but 100% made in Longquan, China. Run away!

    Sword. Your opinion?

With the (undeserved) bad reputation of the Bungo Takada school, i dont see why someone would make a gimei Takada.
  6. Beautiful tanto! So you’re not a good photographer? I wish I were half as talented as you are!
  7. I’ve bought a sageo from them. Nothing to complain about. They’re legit but expensive and limited choice.
  8. Not Japanese. No shinogi ji nor yokote. Maybe one of those swords made by locals to imitate Japanese swords as there seem to be some age to it. Even the Jabari looks wrong.
  9. Definitely cleaned in an unorthodox way. I’m not even sure if the straight line I can seen on one of the pictures is the Hamon or... something else!
  10. What Chris said. I like the mountings. Too bad the ito was re-wrapped the wrong color. The b Are is another story. It was probably rusted and someone attempted to fix that. This way, there’s no way to know whether the blade was Gendaito or Showato without seeing the nakago, though my little finger tells me Showato.
  11. Man, you can’t do that yourself! It’s a NO! NO! NO! It’s either you get a togishi to so it, or you don’t. Showato or Gendaito, an inexperienced hand will ruin the blade and it won’t help you make a judgment anyway. It’s a job!
  12. That’s a very interesting bit of information, Thomas! I don’t think I’d read it in the translated version, or maybe it is because the translation is so poor that it wasn’t made explicit. Thank you, it clarifies things a lot for me. EDIT: and it comforts Bruce’s theory expressed in that previous thread, before we knew more about the W. Everything is starting to fall in place! http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/27827-mantetsu-mei-question/
  13. That was a great documentary, thank you for posting it!
  14. Im afraid Chris is right, Hardy.

    Koto sword

I agree with Steve and don’t think it was reworked. This kissaki is typical of some swords of the period.

    Very odd mune

    I’d say kanmori otoshi too!

I also highly recommend that book. Less known than many others, but a very good book.

Don’t worry, it’s not easier with experience!
  19. I’m not good enough to judge on that point. However, this isn’t your typical Mino nakago jiri...
  20. Nice Tsuba and nice gesture, Curran! I applaude!
  21. That would be my guess too.
  22. Mino blade I think. Not too sure about the date though. Tapering but too much sori for Kanbun I think.
  23. That would have been my conclusion too, Kyrill, pending better pictures.
