    I don't even know who all the Minatogawa smiths were, but I'd love to have one by Gassan Sadakatsu or Sadakazu. Doubt that $10K would suffice, though.

    It could be just the photos, but it looks to me like the shinogi, yokote, and lines of the mune appear to have been dulled slightly; by some sort of abrasive, I'd guess. Not horribly, but they're just not as crisp as I like.

    I think I'd value it at more than that. What are the dimensions? Also interesting that in one photo, the habaki looks copper, and in another, silver. Same habaki?

    Jason, Looks like the real deal; good on you for not falling for some reproduction. The softening of the lines that Ray mentions bothers me more than the fukure, but that's just me. Looks like a fairly decent habaki, too. How about a close-up of it?

    Might help not to magnify it quite so much. I agree with Stephen, but don't know why the first two strokes of the 3 are so much lighter than the rest.

    Ahh. Good to know! Where does the tracking show that it got hung-up for so long?

    Look closely. There's a straight razor shape folded both ways. Nice!

    Might be a good idea to get the minimum insurance going forward, so at least you'll get tracking, even though you may never need it.

    Saw an absolutely beautiful masame hada tanto on a dealer website last year for ¥200,000. Shinsakuto.

    From the listing: "Upon conferring with one the top gendaito experts in the United States, it is our opinion that this sword was made by Shigetsugu--this opinion can either be proven or disproven by submitting this sword to shinsa." I didn't think shinsa would attribute a blade that is gimei. Am I mistaken?

    If it's dated, it will be on the opposite side of the signature. The mounts don't appear to have been messed with and the blade looks to be in good polish. Overall a decent WWII gunto.

    Worn and faded (although the description says otherwise). Whether naturally or artificially, I don't know; but compare with others here.
