    It Iooks to be copper not iron. It seems to have black lacquer on the back side. You have choices. Leave it the way it is. Remove the paint /lacquer. Or if it is shakudo it can be seems by a professional.

    At a sword club meeting, I brought a sword and a full oshigata of the sword. When I talked about hataraki I could point to the oshigata to show where the feature can be found. It was a great way to move from photo and description to the real thing. I recommend making a full oshigata of a blade to really learn what you are seeing.

    Thanks Steve I found two smiths by that name who worked from 1926-1989. They were in Markus Sesko;s Swordsmiths of Japan Aki-Kuni.

    Hello I was asked to help someone with a sword. It has a stamp that I think is the Seki stamp and is signed Kane ?? All help is appreciated. WWII blades is not my area of study.

    The three cutouts are a jingasa (hat) and holes for the kozuka and kogai.

    We had a club meeting there and tools them again. Still no change. I haven't been back for a few years ago it may have been corrected. Their best sword a Shodai Hizen Tadakuni with a two body cutting test is the one wrongly labelled.

    The local museum has switched the labels on two swords. I have told them about this and they never changed the labels.

    Thanks Brian. I noted that when I signed in today. There is still a problem in that some colours are difficult to see when in dark mode. I just posted a note to a seller starting just that.

    Just a side note the best packing that I have ever seen was shine by Ted Tenold who is also a wonderful guy and great to work with. He too is excellent at kantei.
