This is the first time that I read the relationship of nanako and silk weave.

Yesterday I did a computer update on my Dell Laptop. Usually I ignore the tour that comes with the update. Since this was a big update I looked at them. The interesting feature that is available in Word, Excel and PowerPoint is that if you highlight a word or phrase and right click your mouse and choose translate you can select both the original language e.g English and the language to translate to e.g. Japanese. You could also translate from Japanese to English. Any of our members who are not English speakers can translate from their native language to English. Try it out!

I wish that I could blame autocorrect. I agree with George's comments. The signature does not show the use of a tool - no tool marks. It looks cast. The lines/edges are all rounded. I thought that I could see some casting lines in the hitsu ana.

People with two papers for the same sword usually find that if the smiths are different, the smiths are at a comparable level. A good mumei sword by a decent smith will not be attributed to a low level smith. It may be attributed to a smith at a comparable level but not the actual smith. Juyo swords have sometimes been attributed to a different smith when they earn tokubetsu juyo. I had a blade papered hozon to Enjyu that went to Hosho when it was papered juyo. The word Den in one level of paper may disappear at a higher level, or the reverse may happen. Do you think that the shinsa team spends the same amount of time on blades looking for hozon, tokubestsu hozon, juyo or tokubestsu juyo level papers?

I see no way to fix that. You could have it made into a tanto or wakizashi. You could have the original mei inlaid in to the new tang. Or, you could leave it as is and enjoy it for what it is/was. Or you could have a polisher open a window so that you could appreciate the hada and hamon.

Have you texted it with a magnet? I collect iron habaki. Your looks quite different thrash mine (2).

The mekugi ana seems to be very far from the machi (notches).

I have a WWII sword with a large Seki stamp. It was discussed in this thread. It is a traditionally made blade.

Perhaps instead of a full polish get a window done. You will be able to see the hamon and hada. It is usually not very expensive to get a window done. The polisher can also do the kissaki to show the boshi.
