  1. A paper weight?
  2. Hi Richard, that's a good possibility camparing rough iron style of some saotome tsuba. I take this scenario as a potential school. thanks again.
  3. Thank you "SalaMarcos" for your interest. Nevertheless, sorry to desagree on your assessment. Efugo being " basket" in Japanese, as the design apparently looks much more as a fan (jigami) I doubt it can be described as efugo sukashi..... Having the tsuba in hands, I can garantee it is not "tosho" as the mimi is not as thin a tosho tsuba should be.... Thank you again....
  4. Thank you to all of you for this information and thank you for Sébastien who PM me this link:http://www.e-sword.jp/wakisashi/1510-2017.htm
  5. Thank you Peter, Nobody else can give examples? Apparently he is a low average smith: Name | Gen | Date/time | Province | Toko | Hawley | Level | Point | HIROTOKI | 1st | KAN-BUN 1661| MINO | 530 | HIR 445 | JO-SAKU | 300 |
  6. Hi, I have been offered a Wakisashi signed :常陸守藤原廣辰 - Hitachi no kami fujiwara Hirotoki Does someone has swords signed by this smith? Any information on him (http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/HIR445) would be highly appreciated. Thank you
  7. Thank you Ian and "merci" Thierry After seaching in books and on some web sites, I have no better clues than yours. So let's drive this tsuba has being in the Myochin school spirit with Jiagami (地紙) design. Cheers
  8. Hi Tosogu experts, I purchased a Tsuba today without knowing nothing.... Metal : iron with a copper insert at one hitsu ana level. Size: 82 mm X 80 mm What is the design of the two large hitsu ana (Baskets?) It looks quite old but is to really beginning of Edo ? What is the reason for the copper insert ? Is it part of the design? All views on this Tsuba are warmly welcome. Thank you
  9. Robert, I did not see the film but the IKEDA MISSION is quite famous in France: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikeda_Nagaoki
  10. If found a similar tsuba and discussion from 2009 on the site : http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/4663-tsuba-help/
  11. Thank you Sébastien and Steven. Does it mean that the Tsubako Katzuyuki has stated that the tsuba is "from a design of Kano Tan'Yu Morinobu"? I will try to detect the Kano school paint with the design of the plum tree on my tsuba....
  12. Hi, I just bought this tsuba. Omote side is signed Katzu Yuki if I refer to my books (please confirm). But what about Ura side ? I have deciphered one Kanji as being YU in the middle. But what about the 2 other ones ? __YU__ + Gourd Please, I need some help Thank you Bruno
  13. PM sent for the Menuki
  14. Thank you Malcom, That's an interesting angle. The Axe and the gourd as a Budhist symbol is a new door to be opened on this tsuba. Thank you again
  15. @ Steve : Thank you Steve for you efforts.... It is always very helpful to have someone knowing Japanese cultural angles @ Brian: I would strongly support you in having Ford giving some clues, especially when we come to metal work. @ Peter: Should you find the artist names... You are more than welcome. In addition, I scanned the Tsuba for an other metal analysis....
  16. Thank you Steve in helping me to progress.... Finnaly , why signature couldn't be : 後藤 弟子廣利 (Goto deshi Hirotoshi) Would this make sense?
  17. Thank you for your comments. This tsuba (modern or not) shows great skills in inlaying flat shakudo in a very tense suaka base. The shakudo mimi in addition make me think the tsubako wasn't a "beginner". Anyway I would like to know who is that artist if any one can help. Thank you again
  18. Topic of puppy - Please refer to:http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/15268-puppy-fittings/?hl=puppy
  19. Jean, just to add another exemple of a wooden tsuba representing Daruma....
  20. Hello, This signature is quite difficult to decipher to me. I guess it might be Hirotoshi on the left side. But on the right one ? What the meaning of the gourd like seal ? Thank you for your help Bruno
  21. Without better pictures no chance to have an answer..... At glance my feeling is this tsuba is a fake.....
