I'm looking for Tanto made by Mukansa smith for possible purchase.

I'm trying to gather information about the gendai smith takahashi tsuguhira. My understanding is that he was a mukansa smith, and that he passed away in 1996? Couldn't find anything else about him. I'm somewhat surprised about that, especially since he was a mukansa smith. I would appreciate any information, pictures ...etc. Thank you.

This blade doesn't look like a modern clone at all! I would say this is an authentic nihonto, probably late muromachi period that had some rust damage, which somebody tried to remove unprofessionally.

What do you mean with his reputation? I haven't heard much negative about him.

I did notice though that the nthk has quite a lot of mistakes in their origami lately. I personally just received yesterday my corrected paper for a set of Menuki which are signed and from the late Edo period. The first nthk paper stated though them being mumei and from the muromachi period. Now they corrected it though.

I'm hearing mainly negative opinions about the NTHK -NPO coming from Japan. Whereas in the USA it seems that the nthk has a better reputation. I wonder why that is the case?

Then I really question the importance of Juyo certificates, if it's not really evaluating quality and rarity.

By that logic how did the first blade pass? There has to be a first! So if quality, condition and rarity and history are criteria for passing Juyo, then why wouldn't a very good quality blade that's in top condition, signed, dated, name of the samurai who commissioned the blade engraved on the nakago and NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon be a good start to try Juyo? Just because there is little known about the smith or there are only a handful of his blades still in circulation?
