  1. Robert, it was rather commun in old European collections to stamp Tosogu with a number. Therefore It doesn't mean that this tsuba was belonging to a museum. It only indicate that this tsuba left Japan more than a Century ago.
  2. Hi, I have a tsuba (topic is Gamme sennin and his dancing frog) signed Sekijoken Motozane : 赤城軒元孚 But there are a least 4 Motozane: 1 - The first generation 1741 / 1830 2- His first son: 1780/1851 3- The third son of #2: 1794/1865 4- The son of #3 : 1846/1916 Do you have information on which generation is my tsuba ? Thank you for your help
  3. From KOJI-HOTEN of V.F. Weber (Volume II - page 274) it is mentioned (my own translation from french to english): In Japanese books it is mentioned that a huge snake of more than 240 meters swallowed elephants. Such a monster named "Tani" in the book "Hô-un-chô nen-daï- ki" attacked warriors and was able to swallow them with their horses.
  4. At least they were 2 auctioneers to think the mei was right ....🤣
  5. Thank you Robert but personally I do not see any mon in this tsuba . Certificates are what they need to be 😉
  6. Hello, I need some help regarding the school attribution of a Tsuba I purchased in 2002. I saw today that a similar tsuba with a Kicho paper was sold on Ebay. I post, herewith, pictures of my tsuba and the origami of the similar one published on Ebay. You help will be highly appreciated Bruno

Hi Joe, regarding the symbols , all explanation are there: Bruno
  8. John, yes indeed I purchased this tsuba to you and more renctly I succeeded to get together this tsuba with a kozuka , same technic, same school, same topic, thanks to another estimated NMB member. Where are the Kogai, F/K and menuki ?😛
  9. Interesting Luc. A similar one has been sold at a French auction house in 2012 with a Kaga attribution (#18)..
  10. Hi Sven, First of all welcome to the board ! Then, by NMB rules you have to sign your post (completing your profile) As far as the 4 tsuba are concerned I would guess as it quite obvious #1 Shoami #2 Heianjo #3 Heianjo #4Choshu as per the Kanji on the right - 長州 Best regards Bruno
  11. Hi, I have seen similar tsuba with a Kaga school attribution when from my perspective it is a Heianjo school exemple. What are your views ? Thanks
  12. Right image West : Tsuzumi ?
  13. Nice looking Kozuka 👀
  14. A similar one at a French action 10 years ago :https://www.thierrydemaigret.com/lot/6855/1368757?npp=50& . Hammer price was € 250
  15. So many Hiroyoshi with different Kakihan as in the previous exemples !😅. What is real, what is gimei? The Hiroyoshi ,I purchased on this site to an honorable member some years ago has a different Kakihan .... Mine looks legimate considering my documentation and other exemples in museums (https://art.thewalters.org/detail/32601/tsuba-with-legendary-figures-by-the-seashore/) .Probably different students adopting the same name ?
  16. Surprisingly, Haynes does not list any MOTOTAKA with the 珍 Kanji.... but we find 元孝 or 元鷹. But we have the Genchin guys....
  17. I am in... Nice Website !
  18. I wish I could afford one of them... Spendid !
  19. and direct sun pictures....
  20. Yas, you are perfectly right. Depending the angle, the kind of light (natural, artificial) and I would say even my mood ... tsuba color might change. These one probably represent an approach to the real (natural light) color.
  21. Sébastien, I found this one similar to yours from Choshu school (Nagato) and from the Kawaji family. Signature is Choshu Hagi No Ju Kawaji Saku長州萩住河治作 (https://www.millon.com/lot/93327/9638460) I hope it can help
  22. Curran, you are right it was a real gambling.... Result was more than expectations (with a light cleaning)....
  23. Robert, I am not an expert (on anything by the way ) but Akasaka sounds good. Mine was sold in 2016 for 90 Euros on Ebay from a very old french collection.... Not as nice and delicate as yours but... price difference makes me think that such tsuba can be found at a more affordable price.
  24. I understand now why some famous tsuba collections have desappeared....
