My apologies to Gary about this reply but was unsure where else to put it Moderators it can be moved or deleted as you wish This was PMed to me today YOJIMBO Replied: 5 hours ago I won't be vulgar. Because you would report me, hero. But I don't like you. Your hanpo is junk. I stand by that. And regarding the yoroi kake : if you had a problem, you should have fixed it right away. Slandering the stand just because you and your hanpo are junk. don't even answer. I expected this type of reply I will only say that I bought one of the hanpo from Yojimbo in Feb 2022 I thought I'd seen that you are not allowed to comment on his for sale items. I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong.

I asked a few people for advice about lacing a yodare kake to a mempo as the odashi ge had almost turned to dust After being on my to do list I had a go today Although finding it difficult it was going OK until I had a phone call! After resuming the lacing it was not until I got to the end of the first set I realised I'd missed two holes It was so tight I cut it off and will start again when my head is in the right place and had the patience which at my age tends to run out a bit too quick Apart from the obvious error I think that although I left some of the quite loose other where tight so next time I'll leave all the odashi ge loose and tighten it up at the end Do you think this will work and please correct any incorrect terminology through this learning curve

Honjo Masamune found!! (well almost... maybe)
kissakai replied to Adrian S's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I was reminded of a similar line from Spariticus But this time: 'I am the Honjo Masamune, no I am the Honjo Masamune, no I am the Honjo Masamune etc I see the owner has a nickname of PARRY more Maybe just seeing how many bites they can get! -

Should have started with pictures. Deeds rather words works for me. Maybe just fishing for bites -
I'd like to see a vid of someone using a horn or similar to de-rust. My friend had a lump of copper he would place on the gas ring to heat up a tsuba (iron) then pick of the rust

Thanks Bruce that was an interesting link I've added this request to the Gunboard forum as they were very helpful with details about my Arisaka Just added one line: Is the knot tied correctly

I believe this to be an 1886 pattern Naval Officers sword After looking at Dawes – Swords of Imperial Japan 1868 – 1945 I confused Page 256/7 shows 1183 pattern with an identical 9 leaf pattern but the image shown has a mekugi securing pin but mine does not Also stated the colour of my pommel is for an ensign to captain Later on page 341 figure 27-3 states this colour is Chokunin (means nothing to me) level guard design Known: 9 leaf pattern Solid tsuba Blade has a groove and pointed. The etched Hamon has been polished away Confused: Naval or other 1888 or 1883 pattern The grade of the owner

I think that comments should contribute to the post and in my opinion this doesn't You made a comment on one of my hanpo posts stating it was rubbish and not worth repairing which I thought contributed nothing of worth. You sell some pretty low value stuff but you have never had anyone state this in a reply to your selling posts. I bought one of your amour stands and the quality was dire but it didn't cost much so it's an item I can strip down and remove the sharp edges and improve the finish. I never stated this in a reply to your post as I left it to the potential buyer to make up their own mind This is quite hard to write but after your repeated caustic replies I felt now was a good time to air my views. I can be as harsh as you but I suppose I'll now be on your 'blocked' list I have nothing more to say and will not be drawn into an exchange of correspondence You sell quite a few items on the NMB and I wonder if you make a contribution the NMB although this is non of my business When I sell an item I contribute 5% of the sales to to the NMB and am happy to be a Gold member but that is my free choice

I had a chat with Bob Haynes yesterday and he thought the low sales was due to the current value of the yen He currently buys direct from Japan via an agent, and he's bought a lot of stuff lately

T246 - Musashi tsuba has been sold

I would try a white background as it is less distracting

Not so many tsuba sales lately so I've bumped my sales https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/n8kttaabz2dj58rlgexzy/h?dl=0&rlkey=ahi03ocgo7kofs0chkhws8cen T183

I bought an item from Germany and the shipping was horrendous. Luckily a NMB member offered to pick them up and post them too me which was absolutely brilliant You do need to check all the extra costs

I thought some of the fittings were a reasonable buy but as Thomas said add in the buyers premium and shipping to outside the states and import duty it would add so much more

Did anyone watch the auction live? Were there any surprises?
-
I thought I'd watch the current Bonhams nihonto auction. I can see the live auction but no sound and in other auctions you can scroll forward and backwards in this one I can only see the item being auctioned in real time. Is this normal I have a password login but didn't register to bid as these are well beyond my price range
