    Bonhams

I thought I'd watch the current Bonhams nihonto auction. I can see the live auction but no sound and in other auctions you can scroll forward and backwards in this one I can only see the item being auctioned in real time. Is this normal I have a password login but didn't register to bid as these are well beyond my price range
  2. Nice reply Thomas. I just used the 1" from the floor rule for mine
  3. I've never seen a straight blade of this era!
  4. Ivory has no 'blood' dots but I don't know if scrimshaw or walrus has 'blood' dots or any other features
  5. Chinse cloud type. Difficult with this type so maybe one for the Shoami bucket. I await a more knowledgeable reply
  6. A couple to go on with
  7. Fitting my school would help me as I've a quite a few fittings (less tsuba) that I know nothing about
  8. Thanks Piers it all helps I'm beginning to think it may be an unrecorded smith. As it is possibly 1850+ there must be loads unknown
  9. Final price drop to £600
  10. Any other suggestions?
  11. Image as requested

    Tsuba design

The links shows this: Rinpo is a symbol of Buddhist temples and Hindu temples. There are various theories, but it is said that it was originally a weapon, a wheel, or a mandala. It became a family crest because of its religious significance.

    Tsuba design

I bought a few tsuba from Steve W recently and are in the post I'd like to know about the design if possible. I've never seen on like this and it intrigues me the most Ken shape comes to mind but surely not. So unknown radial shapes and radial circles Second one. I can only see the moon. Crude Myochin?
  16. He is keen to sell to buy another item so £650!
  17. I had two of these but both were copies so you know they are liked. This was at the start of my collecting and it was a good lesson

Nice Glen I do have another five mountains'
  19. When you post these tosogu there is usually a good description and unless someone can add a worthwhile comment there not a lot to be said. I used to add words like, wonderful, great example etc but they were really superfluous as they just stated the obvious. I will add a comment if I can give a bit more background I will. From the views you can see how popular this post is. I wonder if it needs a separate thread as it's nice to keep it together but that is just my view Looking forward to seeing more examples
  20. Another term I've learnt - thanks
  21. I bought the tsuba and I said I'd add a couple of images. Strange as it's signed on the back. 73 x 70 x 5.0mm Not a theme I'm aware of unless it is purely about entertainment
  22. How about £700?

So not a rugger ball or a logo? Looking at the replies and a previous post: kanji for rain bottom left: 雨 stylised version of the kanji for sun: 日 kaze for wind 風 It's looking like the weather so possibly the moon is there and one other symbol missing/untranslated
