kissakai replied to kissakai's topic in Sword Shows, Events, Community News and Legislation Issues
Some additional images. I've already told them that the orientation of some tsuba are wrong and need changing -
I think we just wanted to know that the book would be completed and Ford has assured us that it will I appreciate the candour of your reply and hope all works out for you both

We are ready to take my Japanese items to the museum tomorrow and the opening details are below Exhibition at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery 2nd April – 22nd May 2022 TSUBA From samurai warrior to status symbol Working with a local Bedworth collector, Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery is creating its first ever exhibition of Samurai artefacts. The display will focus on Japanese sword guards, which are called tsuba in Japanese. These are the part of the sword that protects the holder’s hand from the blade. The exhibition will show their decorative development from the warring period to more peaceful times. Designs range from the portrayal of war and myths to depictions of animals and plants. Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery Riversley Park Coton Road Nuneaton CV11 5TU Tel: 024 7637 6158 The Museum is open: Monday to Saturday, 10.30-4.30pm Sunday, 2.00-4.30pm Admission to the exhibition is FREE This exhibition was scheduled for 2 years ago but Covid stopped it all so it will be nice to see the exhibition finally open I will add some photos when they are all in their display cabinets I'll also be doing a talk on this exhibition but n date yet

I showed Ford one of my tsuba which I thought was quite good For example I said how well the bird was carved but he said that if someone is carving birds almost every day for a number of years a low grade worker would get very good at carving birds A bit rambley but what I'm trying to say is making identical images for a maker may not be that difficult

Is that a seam/line I can see in the holes through the middle of the tsuba?
-
I wonder if the kao has some of the character of the kanji mei - just a thought
-
I think Florian is right but I'll still describe it as ~Yatsuhashi bridge as the alternative would be something like Image bisected by a zig zag line even though the subject is the same!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Paul That is a nice reference document for members to know the layout of these certificates
-
Thanks Glen I'll use that description Very good condition It is quite heavy and I'd didn't show the edges which have very small 6 points stars and other 'stuff' zogan style and there is a bit of age
-
Hi If I see what looks like iris's and a plank I think it is the Yatsuhashi bridge What do you think of the Edo tsuba? The flowers do not look like Iris's and the 'bridge' is very basic Why a tree trunk by the kogai ana and a flower dangling at 12 o'clock

Some Fuchikashira, Kozuka and Menuki For Sale
kissakai replied to Krystian's topic in For Sale or Trade
Hi I just like to add a couple of points that may help other buyers When a seller has multiple items for sale I cut and paste the description of the item of interest in my PM I may ask for extra images or any details to help me decide If I’m 100% sure of a purchase I ask for a total and their email for a PayPal payment and pay using the ‘friends’ option Once paid I send my address and any delivery instructions as I always as the package to be tracked and signed for where possible and a copy of the tracking number It only takes minutes to send a payment On delivery I contact the seller to say it has been delivered I buy quite a few items, so sellers know my reputation One follow up example from a few days ago I expressed and interest to buy (as I needed to check my funds) within four minutes of seeing the selling post They PMed me back saying I was first in line, but two others wanted t buy so three buyers with 30 minutes It was a no brainer, and I confirmed my wish to buy and paid immediately A seller expecting payment not delaying statements -
Mekugi, the real secret of Japanese blades?

I see the tsuba has a rectangular slot and was was discussed on a previous post so it all adds to our knowledge -
Some Fuchikashira, Kozuka and Menuki For Sale
kissakai replied to Krystian's topic in For Sale or Trade
Sorry to here about your experiences I have bought quite a few tsuba from just one or two sellers so we know each other well I PM'd for one tsuba from a 'friend' seller after only being for sale for less than 30 mins ! He was sorry but rules state first bid/payment secures the piece Some times you have to be very quick So I've been disappointed at times but never felt there is any unfairness but live is life I do know that I've had a first bidder who delays payment or doesn't pay at all PS Just shown my interest in a post after four minutes!
