Jean Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 While in vacation who can translate this sayagaki for me. I can see Ryokai that's all. The first kanji generally is the province but I can't decipher Yamashiro Quote
Tokaido Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 Hi Jean, on a first glance I read Joshu (= Yamashiro) with a "special writing of the kanji "shu". But maybe I'm wrong Concering the rest I can deciper something of "osuriage mumei" , Rai Kunitoshi, Nambokucho, and in the left column at the very end: keihin (good work) as well as chinchin chocho ("very precious") Greetings Andreas Quote

Ray Singer Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 I have thus completed my Gokaden collection Congratulations Jean, sounds like you made a great choice to represent Yamashiro. Look forward to seeing photos when the Ryokai arrives. Best regards, Ray Quote
Jean Posted August 7, 2015 Author Report Posted August 7, 2015 Just before adding a few pictures stolen while the wife was away (she hates blades and she'd kill me if she knew what I have to do to take a few pictures), I would like to say that on O suriage mumei blade when a kantei is made to such a smith as Tametsugu or Ryokai, it is often because the quality is not up the standard of the great masters as Norishige or Rai Kunitoshi but a bit under. This blade is incredible and I shall try to take better picture another day. It displays Rai jigane. the hada is like a cobweb with some patches, there is a wild midare utsuri..... Quote
b.hennick Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Congratulations! Looks to be a great blade. Quote
John A Stuart Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Waiting for the new piccies Jean. Bravo. John Quote
Jean Posted August 8, 2015 Author Report Posted August 8, 2015 Quickly with my Samsung S3 while the wife is at the hairdresser Rai Jigane 1 Quote
Jean Posted August 8, 2015 Author Report Posted August 8, 2015 Just to add a precision concerning "Den"; while the Juyo paper indicates Den Ryokai, the sayagaki of Tanobe sensei indicates directly the work to Ryokai. The "Den" of the Juyo paper comes probably from the fact that the blade has a vivid midare nie utsuri. Quote
flo06 Posted August 9, 2015 Report Posted August 9, 2015 Gorgeous blade ! Congratulations Jean Look forward to see better pics ! Quote
