cabowen Posted July 30, 2013 Report Posted July 30, 2013 I have heard that there were repros made of these-are you sure they are unissued and not repros? Quote
brannow Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Posted July 30, 2013 Hi Chris. Absolutely sure they are not repros. There are some very distinct differences between repros and originals. These 4 all came from one vets daughter. Quote
Brian Posted July 30, 2013 Report Posted July 30, 2013 That's a small fortune in tassels sitting there Wow...very nice. Finding one is hard enough. Thanks for sharing Bill. Brian Quote

mdiddy Posted July 30, 2013 Report Posted July 30, 2013 WOW - very impressive set! Thanks for sharing. Quote
george trotter Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 Wow...40 years of collecting and I only ever saw 1 on a sword in hand (seen them in museums of course) but rare as ... Nice find. Now you just need 4 Yasukunito or some such quality to put them with haha. Regards, Quote
Daniel Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 Very nice Bill How much are these going for nowadays? I was looking for a field grade tassel sometime ago for a dead mint Kunimori but when I saw the prices on those I freaked out. I guess a General's is at least the double. Nevertheless they are nice to drool over. Thanks for sharing. Regards Daniel Quote
brannow Posted July 31, 2013 Author Report Posted July 31, 2013 Hi Daniel, The days of the $1000 generals tassel are gone by about 20 years, sorry. Quote
patrick7813 Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 Great collection Bill. I recently saw one sell for over $2500 and these appear in better condition! Cheers, Quote
Bruno Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 The last ones I saw on Ebay went for $3500 and they were not unissued, only good condition. Quote
Stephen Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 I think that these look too good, and would be thunk repo on ebay, sad to say. Quote
The_ozzy_samurai Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 They do look nice and fresh the yellow is a bit to yellow maybe i saw one in flesh it looked more of gold colour then bright yellow?? im not an expert, but im a bit suspect on the lack of that funny zig zag pattern seen on the inside layers on these tassel's?? brannow Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 They are absolutely genuine. The bullion zig zag is oxidized just as it should be and you can see it clearly in hand. You should not disparage things because they are mint or have bright colors. That is just pure ignorance. I will post a few more photos so the members of the form might learn from them. Quote
brannow Posted August 9, 2013 Author Report Posted August 9, 2013 Here are 2 more photos. You can clearly see the oxidized bullion zig zag. Enjoy! _________________ Bill Rannow http://www.artswords.com Quote
Stephen Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 So Bill are you going to sell one or two, How many GT does one man need in a life time. :D Quote
dwmc Posted August 10, 2013 Report Posted August 10, 2013 Very nice indeed!! We could live three life times and not come across tassels like this again, great find... Also, Thanks again for noticing I was about to lose my wakizashi in the Marriots lobby last Sunday, the sword had just passed Shinsa. Dave Mc Quote

Hey mate im so sorry if offened you, i did see the new images, they are 100% genuine without a doubt in the world, and yes minty does not mean fake, i have a few type 98's that look like they where made yesterday they are so clean of marks and scratch's and fresh in colour, its hard to believe its WW2 era made swords, anyways mate im very jealous of those tassel's the price of them each is about what i spend on each sword, about $2000-$3000 if im correct they have sold for recently, amazing for some silk hey!! Ian B3HR2UH Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Hi Bill , could you or another member who has seen the reproduction Generals tassels tell us what they look like .? Are they obvious fakes or close to the originals ? The Generals tassels I have seen seem to have either the metallic type thread, like yours, or a yellow silk thread about the same colour as the end tassels . On the subject of tassels has anyone seen a brown Naval one with a zig zag thread in it that ,I think from memory , Jim Dawson describes. I haven't seen one of these in over forty years collecting and would like to see a photo of one . Ian Brooks Quote
w.y.chan Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Do the tassel really go for $2500-$3500? About 20yrs ago Bill Tagg had a general sword with a tassel, the shingunto mount was in great condition almost like it was just issued and superior style with a great big shinshinto blade. I forgot what smith it was but Billy was looking for £2k. If I knew the tassel alone is worth that I should have gone for it. Quote
