i would start with Bob Benson. He can evaluate, can polish or arrange for it and submit for paper if you wish. you can contact him through hos site http://www.bushidojapaneseswords.com/index.html

both papers are NBTHK Kicho papers. the swordsmith is Masamitsu here is an explanation of the papers http://www.nihontocraft.com/japanese_sword_papers.html if you research Masamitsu i bet you can figure out the rest of the sword inscription, it starts with the place/province where he lived hope that gives you a start, have fun, i think it is good to learn

maybe it is shobuzukuri with no yokote

i doubt a new paper would increase the value more than it costs you. Hozon probably $1000 with postage agent fees etc and you can't even send it if you wanted to (as far as i know Japan is not accepting mail from the U.S.

it found a new home with a regular customer.

thanks. I am convinced it was made that way. when i first saw it i thought someone had cut a saya and put a blade in but when i look closely everything fits just right, i included a picture of the blade and habaki fitting in the saya it is perfect and the wood liner looks proper and right age. The seppa all match and the push button release is just the right length. I can't see how anyone could retrofit it and do it that well. The blade seems a bit tarted up but i am sure that was done for the officer, the writing on the blade are decent, the bonji and whatever that tear shaped thing is ( i have no idea) seem poorly done, but it was not added post war. I bought it from an antique dealer who bought it in the 70s-80s and didn't know anything about swords so it has not been messed with since the war. anyway i figure it is sort of unique so i hope it finds a good home

i would say Shinshinto Jumyo

i don't know why the second picture is on its end, it was horizontal when i added it like the other 3

sold a couple but a lot more available, some for as low as $45. Some do need some TLC but with a little elbow grease they would improve. If you are interested in a few you can make an offer. I will wait a bit and send a donation when it seems sales are done (looks like Paypal charges me a fee to send donation.)

Steffieeee (is that your name? if not please sign your posts are required) the blade is Osuriage meaning the original tang was lost when it was shortened. Depending when that was done the nakago will show the age and patina it was done. Maybe this was modified in 1600? or maybe a little later so the condition of the tang reflects that. Sometimes on one side of the tang part of the original tang is left to show the original condition but that is on swords that were not shortened to loose the original nakado.

re took pictures. all should be visible now. some are only $45

Grey and I bought a large group of Tsuba. He listed some on his site. But I have a bunch. Many need some TLC as they have red rust. They have set untouched for 100 years before we got them. I have not had time to clean most so we are pricing them reasonably. 10% will be donated to NMB I prefer email to nixe@bright.net but will try and answer NMB messages Buyer pays actual postage and paypal fees. Thanks for looking more pictures follow

**********2020 Chicago SHOW CANCELLED******* The hotel just contacted me to say in line with CDC guidelines they are cancelling all events in April. If you have a room reservation they should cancel it Tuesday and you will get an email. If you have paid for table(s) give me a week and i will contact you. I will have dates for 2021 shortly and hope to see you all then.

no idea what the future holds but as of now it is on. My intent is to have the show if i can. If there is some travel issues or if you can't have more than 10 people in a room i guess it will be a problem. A lot of people drive so that should be a plus. I can see large events cancelling where there are thousands of people but the number of people at the show is more like the numbers you might find at a grocery store so not sure what type of restrictions there might be. If there are any changes i will post here, on FB sites, and my show website www.chicagoswordshow.com
