the second hole does not look like made by a "bubba" looks properly done. This was made early (1936). Maybe tachi vs katana placement? Maybe made for 94 and mounted in 98. Maybe standard but mounted in "custom" gunto mounts. Could be a bunch or reasons. I don't think it is a big deal but that is in the eye of the individual. mark

from pictures it looks oil tempered. has decent military mounts and that is popular now. I would think it would be most valued by a military sword collector. In my area it would probably sell in the $650-900 range....... just my opinion based on what i see

i am not sure what to make of this. I don't want to stir things up more than they are. I agree that a sword needs to be seen in hand especially when in this condition. I think people get an exaggerated idea of what can be established from a few pictures. The internet seems to feed the "instant answer to everything" idea. Reality is different. I think the owner is in Indiana. Not sure where as it is a big state but he is fortunate as there is a study group in Indiana. I saw Chris posted and he is a member. I live near northeast IN and would help if you ever travel to the Toledo area. There is the Chicago sword show every April where you can meet a multitude of collectors. I see "In the UK, you cannot buy a genuine UNPOLISHED Antique "Samurai Katana" for less than £2000, seriously. I think I'm being optimistic with that price"........ while this may be true in the UK here in Midwest US you can buy plenty of swords for less than $1500. I will be at a show next week with 20+ swords many of them less than $1000 ..... but that is probably supply and demand mark

I have not commented as it is difficult to figure bonuses or incentives for gold membership. Many of the comments above make good sense. I agree with the thought that having people "just use us" for multiple translations and info for commercial benefit (selling elsewhere) is frustrating. I enjoy some help from time to time, thanks to the group! some suggestions to limit abuse (without supporting the forum) sounds positive. One suggestions for a benefit of membership could be an advantage on sale items. We are all in different time zones and i see comments from members about missing opportunities to buy something. Maybe gold members have access to new sale listings for 12 hours before they are listed for everyone? Or maybe gold members receive a notification of some type like an email (possibly members could turn these on or off as preferred) might give gold members a slight advantage to see new items for sale. From a sellers perspective selling to a gold member might be easier than navigating multiple unknown people inquiring and making a sale more difficult. I'll give it some more thought Mark
