  2. Check out Grey's site, he sometimes has one https://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.com/
  3. this is a Chinese fake. please stay here and learn. there is a lot of information here on fakes. we see them a lot
  4. Fred just announced the 2020 show is cancelled............. next year Aug 6-8 2021 https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1315310158836506&set=a.130612280639639

    Took a flyer

Congratulations, happy it turned out well.
  7. if you have a "green paper" that verifies a signature for a top Shinto smith, (EX: Shinkai, Tadayoshi, Tadatsuna, any of the JoJo saku or SaiJo saku) or an unsigned blade with attribution to Top level Koto smith (Masamune, Sadamune etc etc) then i would discount or not value those. It would be logical that an owner who wants to sell a big name sword for top price to get Hozon TH first. If the :green paper" is for a low ranked smith or attribution to low ranked smith then it is probably fine. The problem was (in the past) people trying to make money selling BIG name swords for BIG money that were not what they seemed. just my opinion
  8. i have no problems with these papers, they are attributing it to a low ranked smith (or group of smiths), the sword may have been polished badly since the papers were issued so maybe it looked better then. It is no treasure but the papers are probably fine (if they said Masamune or a big name smith then that would be an issue)
  9. i may have some gunto parts let me know after you check Fred
  10. can't make out the date. can you post a close up of the date? Comparing signatures with known genuine ones it is best to try and find a good example dated near yours. As a smith changes his mei like our signatures change knowing the date would help
  11. i would start with Bob Benson. He can evaluate, can polish or arrange for it and submit for paper if you wish. you can contact him through hos site http://www.bushidojapaneseswords.com/index.html

    translation.

    Masa
  13. both papers are NBTHK Kicho papers. the swordsmith is Masamitsu here is an explanation of the papers http://www.nihontocraft.com/japanese_sword_papers.html if you research Masamitsu i bet you can figure out the rest of the sword inscription, it starts with the place/province where he lived hope that gives you a start, have fun, i think it is good to learn
  14. maybe it is shobuzukuri with no yokote
  15. i doubt a new paper would increase the value more than it costs you. Hozon probably $1000 with postage agent fees etc and you can't even send it if you wanted to (as far as i know Japan is not accepting mail from the U.S.
  16. it found a new home with a regular customer.
  17. thanks. I am convinced it was made that way. when i first saw it i thought someone had cut a saya and put a blade in but when i look closely everything fits just right, i included a picture of the blade and habaki fitting in the saya it is perfect and the wood liner looks proper and right age. The seppa all match and the push button release is just the right length. I can't see how anyone could retrofit it and do it that well. The blade seems a bit tarted up but i am sure that was done for the officer, the writing on the blade are decent, the bonji and whatever that tear shaped thing is ( i have no idea) seem poorly done, but it was not added post war. I bought it from an antique dealer who bought it in the 70s-80s and didn't know anything about swords so it has not been messed with since the war. anyway i figure it is sort of unique so i hope it finds a good home
  18. i would say Shinshinto Jumyo
  19. i don't know why the second picture is on its end, it was horizontal when i added it like the other 3
