Dunno how you learn about sword appreciation. Maybe you have a lot of shows/group meetings. You can see many examples irl. -

Tanto marketed as Pilot Hara-kiri dagger
Marcin replied to John C's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Its not about tanto to commit seppuku while doing kamikaze attack. It was a part of "brain washing". Those pilots needed to be convinced enough that their sacrifice is more important then their life. That dying that way is a greatest way. It's like symbol of commitment to die. 3 pages from Fuller & Gregory on subject. Look on plate 162 [wrist cord] -
If anyone would help me with translation of mei on this yari I would be gratefull. Also any info about period would be welcome. As package left USA I'm preparing an essay for customs. It dsnt have pappers but it is a negligible fraction of entire package.

Please help me to identify the markings
Marcin replied to Barny Dots's topic in Military Swords of Japan
As this can confuse new guys Im posting link to differentiate gunto/gendaito/showato. Gunto is more wide term... https://www.japaneseswordindex.com/showato.htm So all swords in military mounts we should qualify as gunto. Meaningless what we find on nakago. As second step we can ofcourse look for date as blade could be just mounted after war in gunto koshirae.- 16 replies

This seller is pushing like 95% of fakes claiming that he tries to help some collector... -
Saya was repainted? @Bruce Pennington tsukamaki indicates this is better example.

Someone extracted one menuki. It could be menuki with crest on it. As I recall on tsuka there is only one with crest and the other is common.

Looks like from one seller we are getting many fine examples.

Help with Mei Translation, Comments on Gunto & Hamon

Saya[scabbard] was probably made of wood with leather cover and you either had seppa with clip or fuchi leather cover with clip [tsuba has exactly that opening. Here you have entire thread about leather covers. Habaki have simple rain/cat scratch pattern. https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/32583-cat-scratch-habaki/#comments -
I hope this sword can be saved and I will put money and effort into it. If it wasn't sukemitsu would be better becouse of scarce title used usually for average swords of others from Osafune - except Sukemitsu.
