  1. I will attempt to take some photos. on the weekend. Unfortunately, I'm not a very good photographer and My camera is not very sophisticated. P.S. I thought Yoshikawa sensei said Kagemitsu, but a friend reckons he said Kiyo mitsu. It's not Sughuha.
  2. The Kanenobu I have, is one of the founders of the Showa Seki school and Father of Niwa Kanenobu. At the Sydney Shinsa in 2009, this was chosen over a Shigetsugu I submitted as one of the best swords submitted. Unfortunately, it only recieved 70pts. This was because someone had removed the date. However Yoshikawa sensei chose this sword and commented, that it was made in the style of Bizen Kiyomitsu and that the date was probably removed to sell it as an old sword.
  3. Brian does this sword have an arsenal stamp on the tang? If so, it's probably 99.9% it's a showato. Even without the stamp, it's still probably a showato. Can you see the Hada yourself? This sword is probably worth the money. The only thing is, if it's a showato, it is only really militaria. Another way to tell if it's a showato, is to check the Habuchi with a Jewelers glass. Water quenched blades have individual crystals, compared to oil tempered blades which appear homogenous.
  4. Hi Chris, yes I have the Masakazu. A very good sword, I believe.
  5. Takahashi Yoshimune, trained in the Bizen tradition through the Yokoyama line. Seki Kanenobu 1st Gen. Tsukamoto Masakazu.
  6. I have been lead to believe, that this auction was from 2 collections. One from a deceased estate, the other not. However, both collections were purchased originally from the same dealer, who has a rather dubious reputation.
  7. G'day and welcome, Alton, Matt and Mattias.
  8. G'day George, as you know our little group, here in Sydney, we class tachi mei as tachi and Katana mei as Katana. So we call one signed as a Tachi, tachi mounted as Gunto etc. Whether this is correct or not, this is how we, categorise them.
  9. Another point, This sword is Tori Zori not Koshi Zori.
  10. Teach us all to look at things more than once.
  11. Roy, kai Gunto with single ashi.
  12. Peter, try Francis Boyd of San Francisco. I believe he is doing some Museum exhibitions around the world.
  13. Dragon represents wisdom. Ken represents, wisdom that cuts through ignorance. together they probably mean enlightenment.
  14. Thanks John.
  15. At a quick guess, I'd say a shin shinto made to look Koto.
  16. I've noticed a few photographs coming out of Afghanistan. Nothing has really changed, just perception.
  17. A seki stamped sword passed shinsa in Sydney last year.
  18. If it's ones own sword that one is taking to and fro, no tax.
  19. In 2006, flew from Sydney to San Fransisco, thence on to New York and return. I took a sword in my luggage and didn't have any problems, the Americans didn't care and on the return, the Australian Customs only wanted the tax on the purchase as they thought I had bought it in the US.
  20. I agree with Chris, oil tempered.
