Apart from the crude engraving, the silver has no patina. A very poorly done fake.

Hi Bert, the world is your oyster for that sort of money and you could probably do better than the sword you posted. Before reserving anything, take the chance to look at as many good swords over there as possible before purchasing.

While not in an unusual location, this Mon appears to be made from copper(?) rather than the usual silver. The good mounts are otherwise more or less unremarkable. Ebay link
-
Total fake, not even close enough for display so worthless.

The individual in Poland is a scammer and ratbag, he should probably be named so others don't fall for such nickel and dime cons. The original seller of the sword on ebay is legitimate and posts regularly on some of the facebook groups, here is the link to his sale: https://www.facebook...nk/2879197092222619/

Celluloid Same of WWII...and Type 3 mon.
PNSSHOGUN replied to george trotter's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Lately there have been two Type 3 swords with Mon on yahoo.jp, the second being rather extraordinary in both number and placement. #1: https://page.auction.../auction/k1111884522 #2: https://page.auction.../auction/x1110916017 Mon on Habaki, Kabutogane, Menuki, Tsuba, Ashi and Ishikuze....! -
My amateur reading of this was "應加礒仁世升綉" but something went terribly wrong as google translate doesn't want a bar of it.... Here is the original inscription, any help would be sincerely appreciated:

Insanity, contact your local MP and encourage all other collectors to do the same. -
Steve the forum would be poorer without you, hope you stick around.

Keep posting blades, however don't focus on the price for now and focus more on what you would like in a Japanese sword. This a past-time that can quickly turn cash into crap.
-
Yes, not Japanese I'm afraid.
-
Close pictures of the Habaki and Kissaki areas are needed, from that shot it looks either very low quality or not Japanese.
-
The bohi looked pretty dodgy and Habaki rather crude, more photos would give a better idea.

A survey of markings on Suya Shoten swords
PNSSHOGUN replied to PNSSHOGUN's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Hi Bruce, Matsusaki will be a surname related to the officer. The other fittings like this follow the same trend, along with fittings by other makers. On occasion this has been confirmed by surrender tags or other identifiers that match the officers surname with what is written on the fittings. -
The brown handled one does look to be a reproduction, the tassel is a fake as well.

Two recent swords have piqued my curiosity around the markings found on swords of the Suya Shoten company, namely the following: Kanji, Katakana or Japanese numbers scratched into the Seppa, Tsuba and Fuchi Small ink stamp/writing in Kanji underneath the Fuchi The curious part is the difference in these ink stamps, so far there have been two noted variations. 嶋田 - Shimada 柄順 - roughly "pattern order" These swords share the following in common: 1930's dated Type 94 pattern mounts Mon Good blades Characters (surname, Japanese numbers, swordsmith) So I ask those collectors with Suya stamped swords, (or swords with ink stamps under the Fuchi) to please check if any of the above are on your swords and report the below details in this thread. Date of sword (if known) Blade Mon present Any other unique features

Meaning of Kanji and Katakana on fittings
PNSSHOGUN replied to PNSSHOGUN's topic in Translation Assistance
Here is one more sword with similar characters on the fittings, also with the Suya stamp On all the fittings: マツサキ - Matsusaki In very faint ink under the Fuchi: 丙/両貞 - Hei/Ryōsada? It looks suspiciously like the Kanji above with the left parts missing.... 柄順 ? -

Info needed for katana from battle of Iwo Jima

You can unscrew it from the top, though there is little reason to beyond your own amusement. This is a most unusual but good quality setup, please keep it in the family.
