  1. The figure with the two Kappa is possibly Rokusuke Keyamura, he is depicted in various guises including dressed as a Samurai. -S-
  2. So back to the way things were but on a larger scale, makes sense. The "newbies" and "loonies" are part of the charm. A little defensive merchandising should keep mishaps to a minimum....most of the best stuff is not displayed, or kept out of easy reach anyway. -S-
  3. Thanks, -S-
  4. Can't open photos either. ????????????? -S-
  5. More people are involved today than in the "good old days", all these ruminations....simply, "The Times They Are A Changin". Rest assured the collecting of Nihonto, and related Japanese arts will survive, things may look different from what many had become accustomed to....relax and rise with the tide, or struggle and sink like a stone. Things are what we make of them! -S-

Ray, I've been expecting a certain party to weigh in but, so far, he is MIA......keep your fingers crossed. Meanwhile enjoy it, it's a fine example! -S-
  7. This has always been a relatively small community. In the past all the "small" shows referenced, were in vast majority not sword shows, but gun and militaria shows which included a relatively small number of dealers in things Japanese. Many legal issues have contributed to the ever ongoing extinction of these venues......as mentioned the internet is eroding that which remains. -S-
  8. Dwain, Your photo skills are pretty solid, its refreshing to see things, more or less in focus for a change. All looks good, the Kozuka seems in sound condition and could be easily restored if you wish...Ford, or one of his associates would be the obvious recommendation. -S-
  9. Bruno, The auction house photo shows a lot more texture, it a stronger presentation. Whatever, it's a very handsome piece with a lot of presence, you usually make good aesthetic choices. -S-
  10. Very nice example Chris, also nice to see a piece in good condition! Cheers, -S-
  11. By George, I think you've got it. -S-
  12. Minus the tekkotsu your generally left with Owari or something else, perhaps a later Shoami work? -S-
  13. Thanks Brian I noticed that, but I suspect Christian's choice of "Till Eulenspiegel" may hold additional meaning. -S-
  14. It's a nice decorative 19th century tsuba, Christian's 'trixter' reference eludes me as it doesn't look as if its pretending to be anything else.....perhaps he will expound further. -S-
  15. Your luck sounds pretty good to me...Ah, anticipation!. Do let us know if anything "pans out" ,LOL. I'm rooting for that flash of colour....maybe several. Cheers, -S-
  16. Thanks for sharing BaZZa, good digging! One can never have enough reference material. Cheers, -S- p.s.- maybe you should try your luck at Lightening Ridge.

Yes, stylized bird ( CHIDORI ) and waves. BTW, very good shopping, you did well. Cheers, -S-
  18. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a foolproof formula for this, I know that there are some who claim to have such a thing, but I find it highly doubtful....to many variables. Pity, It would save us much time and expense. Cheers, -S-
  19. Grande job Chris! This is the kind of order and polish we should all strive for, I'm sure you have inspired many! Well done, -S-
  20. The gilding on both examples looks like an obvious "refresh" to me, although Guido's choice is more subtle this manner of enhancement is becomming de rigueur with too many venders. -S-
  21. David, here are some Ko-Goto examples, as you can see they are VERY different from yours. -S-
  22. Didier, here is a picture of the tsuba Chris had in his link. -S-
  23. Chris, As far as the authenticity of the tsuba itself, this is an area much more yours than mine, apparently this is not a one off.... there are variants of these about. Cheers, -S-
  24. Although there are exceptions in nature, the convention in Japanese art is that Sakura blossoms have notched petals and Prunus blossom petals are rounded. Cheers, -S-
  25. Great shots Ray, good thing your not photographing food.....I'd weigh 400 lbs! Cheers, -S-
