    Very nice, Jeremiah. Yours?
  2. This is university-level response!
  3. You're right, JP, & that's strange. Let me try again: https://www.collectioncare.org/relative-humidity-and-temperature
  4. Nice collection & layout, Michael. And very good of you to care for your elderly mother. This article may make you feel better, https://www.collectioncare.org/relative-humidity-and-temperature but you should be checking your blades on a regular basis, more-frequently than you do now.
  5. Interesting. Thanks, Chris.
  6. Yes, not exactly solid steel, are they? My wife's grandmother's china is too frangible, as I've proven too many times!
  7. Not getting that link to work, Darrel. Went directly to asmolean.org, & typed "tsuba," but got a Your search yielded no resultsmessage.
  8. Yes, kaeri is the term for hamon turnback in the boshi. The illumination is too high to see many details, Stef. Can you post a shot or two of the completely-bare blade?
  9. One of the members of my sword club has a vertical display for 5 or 6 naginata, that was very custom-made, Stef. It's shaped sort of like a yin-yang symbol, with half of it swinging away to allow removal, & back together to lock. He's pretty old (90+), & hasn't shown up at a meeting in awhile, but I'll see if I can arrange for a photo or three, & will pass it on to Steve, too.
  10. Got here a day late, & no sign of the tsuba....
  11. Stef, Grev's book on tsuba schools, "The Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery Tsuba collection," is an excellent reference. It's available at http://www.lulu.com/us/en/shop/greville-cooke/the-birmingham-museum-art-gallery-tsuba-collection-v2/ebook/product-23333008.html There are also quite a number of useful (& free) references, right here at http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/forum/17-articles/
  12. Nicely carved, & good photo. Please sign with your first name, per Brian's rules.
  13. What kind of a statement are they expecting your friend to make?
  14. That's a great idea, Barry, & I'll bring it up at our next sword club meeting. You might add a habaki in restoration. Was there any consensus on the 5 blades? Did any agree with you?
  15. That's certainly true, Steve. I tried to find someone to polish mine, but gave up after a couple of years. Too many edges!
  16. Oh, I named one of mine, but it demands privacy.
  17. If you're buying on "value," then you probably made the right decision to return it.
  18. Excellent source, but wrong axis. Calculate it from the ha to mune, not sideways.
  19. James, think about why I-beams are used in construction, instead of plain old steel bars.
  20. Chuck, the standard method for determinaing jidai is to look at the completely bare blade's sugata. So, looking at your seventh photo, it looks to be Muromachi.
  21. Actually, the bo-hi is intended to strengthen & stiffen the blade. Being an engineer, I had to prove that to myself, so I created an AutoCAD 3D model of a blade, & ran what's called a Finite Element Analysis (FEA). I don't recall the exact increase in stiffening after a dozen years, but it was around 70%.
  22. There is a member of my sword club who is going through the same problem. I've heard him complain for at least two years, so it's not just you.
  23. EXcellent article, thanks.
