1. Well said Brian. Unfortunately I cannot upload any pics as I'm not in possession of a computer at the moment and on the travelling foot. /Martin
2. Hello, I was myself about to recommend google. I have never seen a misspelled gimei. What you need to do is to compare signatures. The one on the blade you uploaded here is an obvious signature not made by the smith. Find verified signatures on the web that are verified by papers. When you find a verified specimen you will see what is wrong by your own eyes. If not, we will show you when you upload the reference mei. /Martin
3. It is actually possible to make both arrows and speers out of wood. /Martin
4. John and Paul, No pics posted. The blade is in Japan now (whereas I'm not at the moment) and with some luck I'm able to take some photos before/between submission or shipment. I don't know if I'm able to bring it with me as I go back. Timing is the key. It's either 3 weeks or 4 months : ( I will post pictures of it. /Martin
5. Just for the fun of it, I will submit it to another organisation. /Martin
6. Paul, Lucky hit... I posted as you posted There was 2 smiths with the name Senjuin - Shodai and Nidai. /Martin
7. Thx John, I assumed likewise, but you never know. Appreciated. /Martin
8. Hello all, I received an attribution after a submission to NBTHK. Mino Senjuin 美濃 千手院 What I'm not so sure about is the way the attributions are made. When the attribution is made to a School, how will it appear in the text? In this case I received Province and School, I believe. Giving everything the benefit of the doubt, it might as well be Province and Smith. It is not known to me how it is presented and therefore I'm in doubt. What is CONFIRMED the syntax they use? /Martin
9. Jacques, I don't think this is relevant in this case. What I mean is; if you make that trace on every equivalent cut you will not get a match in any case presented. We must assume that there are no Gimei in the books. With that assumption it is not relevant to measure whether it is Gimei or Shoshin. All the major hallmarks are there...Mei, Yasurime etc. I'm sure it's a good way test/verify Mei in general, but in this specific case and smith I would say no. What do you think? /Martin
10. Yes Chris and as John says Tada is also valid for that kanji. There are even more readings: Nawa Tada Jou Tsuna In these combinations: 縄生 Nao 縄間 Nouma About this blade, I think it is newly made 1870-1920. /Martin
11. This Tsuna kanji is simplified from its original form which could give more information to the owner as research input. /Martin
12. Chris, It can be read as Nawa and Tsuna. In this case I think Tsuna is adequate. /Martin
13. Hello, I was actually thinking old because lack of photo and insured my comment with authenticity and "looks like". I must admit that I did not see/notice that there could be a cut in the image. Now, when all is revealed I am 100% positive that it is a Kanteisho from NTHK. /Martin
14. Hello, This could be from an ambulating event somewhere. Normally there are drawing/photo och object appraised. This one however is very old, which may explain lack of drawing/photo. Authenticity, dunno... Heisei 18 /Martin
15. Hello, It looks like NTHK Kanteisho... /Martin

Kiyondo

Brian, I must then send an email. Check your inbox. /Martin

Kiyondo

Brian, The Yasurime is correct, but the angle of it is not. Looking at many oshigata of Kiyondo, they are all consistent in Yasurime. The Mei is correctly placed. Will post images...soon. Getting error: The image file you tried to attach is invalid. /Martin
18. Grey, Images of Samurai Swords from the warring state period. Best I can do...There is probably a more exact translation since this is a commercial book. /Martin
19. Chris, Yes, Bizen Omiya (Morikage) made Jihada that way. /Martin
20. Chris, Yes, I looked at the option of Morikage too. Do you have a mix of Itame and Masame? I think the Nakago is reshaped after Suriage. What do you think? /Martin
21. Chris, If the Nengo is unreadable, perhaps there is a stroke missing from the Niji? Is there a chance at all...looking at the image? /Martin
22. Chris, Think you are correct. I leveled up wrong from the bottom. I''ll reiterate... /Martin
