  1. did the Hawaiian go by popo576?
  2. I think I know the person in Hawaii you are talking about. He's an oldtimer who does ebay. I think hes in his 70's or 80's. collects only juyo and sells antiques for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I will write him from time to time and he will give me lots of sound nihonto information and points. He has no interest in coming to this board. I think his name is Brad but he is down the street from Bob the polisher.
  3. Sadly I thought this was a sad and sick joke but I now believe this to be true. I am saddened that he is gone.
  4. I don't even offer international. If I did it would be no to italy and russia for sure as they have a very bad track record for ebay fraud.
  5. Yes my friend. If you are coming this way we should meet up. perhaps a look at a sword or two would be in order.
  6. I had pictures from the gallery ahead of time. it appeared to have a large chip in the cutting area and I couldn't get a clear look. I see it in your pictures now, it seems like rust or dip? I was going for all of them but when the bids grew so fast above the high estimate I retreated and went for the one I thought had the most promise. I went for the last one in the lot, and it did not disappoint. It needs a polish sadly. I am glad the auction house does live video bids as it made it more homely.
  7. has the collector CLP product ever discolored the steel? i have found some protection products will add a patina or discoloration and am hesitant to use anything other than light mineral oil.
  8. i had a few bids on that
  9. yes camera and lighting help please.
  10. Thank you toryu. I am expecting a sword to return to me shortly; if it arrives on time I may well try to submit.
  11. is that boshi ko-mino?
  12. Grey did you out bid me on this: T240. Signed Kaneiye Tsuba with Paper I find it hard to believe I'd stumble across two of these. Anyway as far as the design goes its birds after a rain eating worms. It is my humble suggestion that those are feet not Buddhist marks. see the worm holes and pebbles?
  13. of course it has value. I can not surmise an actual value BUT I do find these items can be quite hot on ebay and I have seen some go for many times what i thought there worth was on ebay and other times the price is spot on.
  14. its great if don't live in Japan and want some stuff. the quality ranges quite a bit BUT we do have some excellent middlemen who will purchase for us.
  15. Ford, This is very helpful. I will do this and post the results.
  16. I like it. you might have a winner.
  17. I do believe it was covered but I am certain it is not any new or modern type of paint. It is definitely iron and covered. I seen this on another converted tachi type tsuba on an important blade. I believe I had read or a person who saw it had said something about using gold laquer in Edo to, for lack of a better term, "Bling" out and draw attention to the person or sword. Seems to be quite intentional as the sekigane is gold along with the goldwashed seppa, gold foil seppa and 1 seems solid gold. Am I crazy or was that ever a trend in fittings? It seems violent to quickly jump to stripping away what was done long before I had the sword (though I am not opposed except I am certain it is real gold lacquer so probably worth a couple bucks in actual gold). ps what exactly is the theme? and why are the ana so beautifully wonky (Buddhist bowl, tea ceremony?)
  18. he reslls yahoo Japan stuff. you can tell when he (accidentally?) bought it because he will list it auction style. I saw him and Zengallery post the same thing and I asked whats the deal? and Zen said he was a reseller and that Zen also does but they have the item in-hand before listing. pics 4 and 7 look like a chip of hagiri
  19. I can only assume it is gold lacquer but it just seems different. The sekigane is gold not copper. The seppa that came with it are gold foil and gold laquered (one might actually be solid gold but I'm not gonna crack it). The Nihonto that came with it is old Koto with a gold lacquer mei. The tsuka has the hole and fittings for the tachi style kashira but was apparently rewrapped and a traditional kashira was used. Fittings are old Iron with solid gold inlay of a pine. I have not come across this before, any information?
  20. What? I thought that sword was worthless with all the flaws. I am confused as i have looser taste than Mr. Bowan and he doesn't mind it.
  21. not fake but looks like a hagire
  22. is this going to shinsa?
