  1. Howdy John. Please post pictures and per the board rules please sign your posts with your name. Thank you and welcome aboard... p.s. some of the most knowledgable sword collectors in the world frequent here. Look for pearls of wisdom everywhere you look.
  2. I concur. I was quite curious as to why the seppa would cover up the hitsu ana and all the decoration. The tsuba is quite heavy also. very thick and must weigh a pound LOL. But I like it.
  3. They were on the same mount which seemed to have some mismatched pieces including a rusty ashi that had a gold dragon under the rust
  4. it was nice to find gold under the rust. But it is into the patina in a few spots so i am not comfortable cleaning this any further. Kinda sad really as i am sure this was beautiful. Appears to be chrysanthemums.
  5. These are a pair of Seppa I aquired along with a rusty tsuba I am slowly cleaning and restoring. They are a beautiful red color witha beautiful patina shine. I hope you enjoy.
  6. looks like he is known for gendaito: Rikugun Jumei Tosho Swordsmiths Known From Literature Sources In addition to the above known star stamped blades by the listed swordsmiths, the following swordsmiths are listed in either the Nihonto Meikan, Tosho Zenshu or John Slough's An Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths 1868-1945. This list was compiled thanks to the research of Jinsoo Kim. There are undoubtedly some duplications with the above list as some smiths did not sign their family names or may have signed with more than one mei. http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/gendai2.htm
  7. i had hoped you would weigh in as you are the king of this era. was this smith known for gendaito at all?
  8. No stamps, no arsenal marks.... made me lean towards gendaito: in gunto mounts for cheap so if its gendaito I'll jump.
  9. nihontoclub online does not show any Munenaga that used just two characters. Does Hawley's?
  10. Ive always been curious because I have a couple, how do you determine if its worth paying to have polished?
  11. Not sure why the smith didnt do a better job on this : any suggestions to make it more readable?
  12. Martin if you go to the album link there should be a kisaki photo. I cannot capture the Boshi well but I assure you it is there. Edit: iPhone autocorrect is does not like Japanese terms
  13. Pretty sure it's not a Chinese fake.
  14. Thank you. I do not have that resource and am content knowing that it is a patent number

  16. Many more located here: http://s262.photobucket.com/albums/ii82/jason_mazzy/
  17. My initial interest was in the koshirae as a potential daisho-ish project as i have another that is close. As will be seen the blade needs a polish. In the dark with a bright light I can see the jigane and activity, near impossible to capture with a camera so I apologize for the crappy photos. The blade has seen many many polishes but has surprisingly few loose grain or kitae.
  18. now its a chinese copy? hrmmmmmmmmmm I assure you it is nihonto. Pictures forthcoming............. though I wasnt even trying to go this direction until I could study it myself.
  19. Tank all of you for your assistance. I don't know how you got it so fast. I have the sword in hand and I cannot even find all the kanji. You guys are amazing.
  20. I don't type especially well from an iPhone. Not sure where the extra e came from. This phone freezes while typing or auto corrects then I have to go back if I catch it
  21. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Japanes ... 1c2e9a4976 not even worth the weight in tamahagne
