  1. kinda chippy and hesitant. is it a showa period sword? seki smith?
  2. The truth of "ninja" or assasin would be held in misinformation. even in the historical past. The refrences to them scaling walls with ease or flying, or dissapearing and use of magic. That would be an assasins best friend. As a former military person, disinformation, psychological misinterpratations and confusement are tactically advantageous. Instilling fear and confusion gives you such an advantage that normal, well excecuted and trained maneuvers gain mystique and legend. Many people do not know this about the gulf war, but if you remember the lines of iraqi soldiers who would walk into a USA area and have their weapons over their heads begging for mercy had alot to do with Psy-ops. It was well distributed that USA Marines, were cannibals and would slaughter them and there families, eat and collect them for trophies. And they gave up in droves through fear. I believe ninja is based on lies and myths perpatrated to actually allow them to work more efficiently, hence the lack of credible information today.
  3. drdata what OS do you use?
  4. if you cant seem to stay logged in, and it is only a cookie issue the remedy is: you have to turn down your security settings on your browser. then log in with the stay logged in box checked and then set your settings high again. Now if you clean your browser or run an antivirus or spyware it is very possible that the next sweep the cookie will be picked up anbd tossed out, requiring you to do the procedure again.
  5. anyone know if this works on vista? or how to get it to load? I have tried to save it, then run it but it will not run.
  6. I can't believe they didn't let you see it. I am of the mind set that if I bring back some of these junked up project blades before they are polished I might make some money there......................... i know I have a couple 16th century blades, if that is the requirement for value there.
  7. I just found these tsuba to be somewhat alike. i did not purchase said tsuba, tho I love the inlaid birds.
  8. i liked the tree in full blossom coveing the tori. seemed very nice. just not in my dudget for an orphaned menuki.
  9. curious about the kozuka kitchen utensils if u wanna pm me the link.
  10. I thought I saw a couple forging lines in 2 of the pictures, but that blade is beat up, and without a window you can not know what is under that rust and tarnish on the damn thing. The nakago looks like it is covered in firescale or slime, though I am sure it isn't. Bob Benson among others Would be able to open an inch or 2 up for you. I think Louis Skeebo is on the board and he may be able to help. If you choose not to get a window: This is not my suggestion to anyone just a possible cleaning method that can work on a dieing and decaying sword, so don't hang me. I in no way endorse doing anything non traditional to a blade, just offering a way to stop the blade from rotting more: You could take a mild soap and water and washcloth and clean the blade. Then Dry it completely. then take some windex to it to lift any residue and crap, then wd-40 the hell out of it to penetrate down past the top rust. then have it wrapped it in soft cloths completely soaked it in wd-40 for 24 hours, respraye and flip it for another 24 hours, then take a clean wd 40 cloth and wipe the blade down gently and alot of old crud should come off. After words you may be able to see alot more of the blade. My suggestion is to let someone more knowledgable see it and window it if you want to keep it. But you have to stop that rust, and I know that wrapping it in oil soaked cloths has been mentioned on this site before as a remedy.

    new nihonto

I think he was reffering to people who seen a diamond in the rough being "helpful" (sacrcasticly) and relieveing the less knowledgable person of an actual good blade. reffering mostly to dishonets dealings. That is how I read the post anyways.
  12. I love bird themes so I am curiosu about this one. $280 is what he is asking, but I have bought several things before so maybe I can get it for a bit less. But tsuba values are my weakness for sure.
  13. well if the signature is legitimate I believe it will be a considered a heck of a deal in the future
  14. This looks similar to me, What do you think of this one? 【Length】 62mm 【Width 】 53mm 【Thickness】 5mm

    new nihonto

I feel as though perhaps what is meant is that, there is no appreciation for some nihonto just because they are out of polish, or were aquired cheaply through ebay instead of a reliable seller. And instead of people answering the question posted, ie. "what does this mei say" you get, "that sword sux", "you suck", "you collect crap" as replies. Those are neither constructive or supportive comments toward the novice or historical collector and push people farther away from collecting the good stuff or asking appropriate questions.
  17. not to derail this topic, but I have some very beautiful ducks, and thought of making a duck feather that would be wrapped and made for use on nihonto. As rumor has it they are used for sweeping uchiko powder off the blade before the paper. Was curious if anyone here would be intereted.
  18. Tell me more about this over use of uchiko? Was it that you were scratching the blade by to much pressure?
  19. Chris, no body has really said much about anything other than the nakago, it is why i posted the other pictures. I found the blade shape intersting. And when I looked it up in my books, the closest thing it looked like is a naganita which had been cut down, but some things didnt seem right so i came here to post and check on my own suspicions. The thread was what does this say, not bash on me for posting something I found interesting. Stop being an armchair snob, and snooty with me. I was curious, I apologize if my curiosity offends you in some manner. But you should take a chill pill and relax as my question was what does this mei say. I don't care if you think it should be melted down since it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. The topic is what does this say. Then the follow up was if I would post blade pics which I did. and it all started because I was studying and the blade shape was quite different and I was curious about it. p.s. curious as to what junk I keep posting?
  20. Thank you Brian. I am definately skipping on the majority of blades and I read Japanese books every day on study. This blade is more of a curiosity because of the shape. Looks to have been cut down to me, and someone readded a signature? or a shrine signature? That is why I was asking what the signature said. Maybe an old chinese polearm... but I have not come across this type or shape often.
  21. Thats why I am posting it here. The blade looks like a cutdown naginata and the nakago has obviously been cleaned. It was the shape that intrigued me, but I was not sure because I am getting the "warning this might not be right" feeling. The nakago looks to have had age on it, but been scrubbed down to me. and the one side looks to have had some carving maybe a bohi before it was shortened????? This was an odd one that had my stumped.
  22. Thank you John that is understood, I was actually being facetious
  23. what looks fake? the mei? or the nakago? The nakago looked fine to me other than the obvious cleaning of it.
