kissakai Posted December 26, 2025 Report Posted December 26, 2025 Hi I'm finding this design a bit difficult to determine It looks like holly but that doesn't seem right 2 Quote
Curran Posted December 26, 2025 Report Posted December 26, 2025 This is a Hayashi Shigemitsu I own. 2nd gen of the school. Ex-Ito-san. I've been told it is a Camellia design, but I have not translated the description of the papers. 1 1 Quote
kissakai Posted December 26, 2025 Author Report Posted December 26, 2025 Thanks Curran I've just found the Chrysanthemum leaves are a similar shape to the first tsuba Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 26, 2025 Report Posted December 26, 2025 Grev, in your SUKASHI TSUBA I think I can see 'overlapping circles' called WACHIGAI. A common feature in TSUBA. Quote
Spartancrest Posted December 26, 2025 Report Posted December 26, 2025 Grev, Lotus root cross section? 1 Quote
Nobody Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 The first design may be 輪違 (Wachigai) as Jean said. And it also reminds me of 錫杖 (Shakujo). Ref. Khakkhara - Wikipedia The second design looks like common paulownia leaves. 錫杖 (Shakujo) 3 1 Quote
FlorianB Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 (edited) Concerning the first one I agree with wachigai. The second tsuba maybe shows a modified form of ivy- or tsuta-kamon. The tendrils would fit. Edited December 27, 2025 by FlorianB Quote
MauroP Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 Unusual description, Curran, the paper say 二叉車透鐔 but I don't know how to read it (maybe futatsu mataguruma sukashi tsuba). Anyway it should mean something like "two stacked wheel design". 1 Quote
MauroP Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 I'd suggest 葡萄 - budō - grapevine for the second tsuba. 2 Quote
