Hi guys,

well a old digger has shown me very sad blade today, but it also comes with a story. its abit fantastic, and  hard to beleive. so im asking for help on this one.

i know the piece is worth very little but the story is interesting. ill keep it to myself until the diagnosis is clear.

it involves flame throwers and tunnels, which explains the lack of habaki marks which I can only imagine that melted off with extreme heat.

so what you guys think?? rust or heat damage ????? let me know guys.

PS its got a bullet hole next to the mekugi

That was in a very, very hot condition. Looks really like melted. I think there was no explosion. Flamethrower could be the point.

I have one in similar condition but due to water corrosion, it was so bad I ended up putting the whole sword in vinegar for a few days just to get the rusts off. A sanbonsugi hamon appeared, showato for sure. There was no story, it was bought from the Cowra museum auction as is.

At this point only the diggers story is valuable, please share.

ill keep the story basic, for a few reasons. one reason, time blurs real accounts and I don't want to be disrespectful to combat veterans.

what i was told was in approx 1945 it was taken/found in Borneo, during a operation called  "Balikpapan"???

during the battle, a heavy fortification was torched with Australian flamethrowers and this was taken from a bunker after the battle.

iv never seen heat damaged swords before but the tang does have either bullet or shrapnel damage

long story short, this sword/relic/rusty stick is for sale. there was a few other swords that I have already moved on for the family.

iv alway said that aswell.  a story is a story. and evan if its written by the pervious owner, its still a story.

Im just helping out a friend, IMHO I think its holds very little value as a object.

just posted this to ask other opinions, as normally I wouldn't take much interest relics like this
