GASSAN TSUKURU, tachimei.  Very suss.  Hard to tell as it has been buffed and possibly acid etched, but I'm leaning to a WW2 field production or a native attempt to copy a Nihonto.  The mountings might reveal more.

BaZZa.

EDIT:  Agree with Gary.

Dear Stephen.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is a fake.  At least all of the furniture is modern Chinese made.  Modern of course is a relative term but nothing about this is Japanese.  Stories about where and when swords were acquired are always hard to prove and subject to confusion but they don't change the facts of the sword.

All the best.

GASSAN TSUKURU

Noooot really, that would be 月山造 - this one is "inscribbled" 日山道: Hiyamamichi??? (But I think it's rather pronunced Rìshāndào.) In my experience of living on and off in China for eight years, that's how a faker imagines a Japanese name looks like ...  :(

P.S.: I think the three random mekugiana are pretty hilarious - nice try ...  (and give the man a deburring tool!)

Absolutely a chinese fake, alot of sellers will try and flog these with the "brought back by a soldier during WW2" story. Many of us have burned by these chinese fakes early on, so don't feel too bad, for now you have something to display in the home.

Mate, you might want to utilize the spell checker and please sign with your first name as well, as per the forum rules.

So given that the blade is Chinese fake and the furniture is Chinese fake and it all fits together then the story about the furniture being replaced in the 70's is.......?

All the best.
