lonely panet Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 well I have mixed thoughts on the condition of the nakago. hada looks great, love the nie but........ https://www.ebay.com/itm/232645904258?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l5999&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI232645904258.N36.S2.R2.TR2 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 His other listing is weird too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Japanese-Samurai-Sword/232651766892?hash=item362b203c6c:g:biQAAOSw37Bac9xs Quote
ROKUJURO Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 NAKAGO looks artificially aged to my eyes. Quote
Stephen Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 modern works, aged nakagos ...chinese made? we wont know 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 I think these are high end chinese swords. The tachi is almost perfect except for the kissaki (they can never get it right) and the polish. Quote
ken kata Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 Hello Forum, I believe it is the same guy that was selling many "Japanese Blades", previously with a different "Vendor" names. I did buy one from him, , after many post from Forums was asking about the authenticity of the Mei on these Blades. There was several vendors selling "These types" of Blades. Jussi E. was kind enough to help research the Blade, when another member was asking about the Mei, on this Blade , than I bought. https://sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/50501/help-sword-signature I paid $530 for this Blade. 1 Quote
Brian Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 I have new suspicions that the origin of most of these blades is in fact Thailand. No proof...yet. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 These are honestly very good, and would fool alot of collectors if sold by a more trusted seller. 1 Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 Modern Made ... likely China but could have been made somewhere else, too. Considering the prices of other modern made blades it is cheap. 1 Quote
vajo Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 His swords a very well made. Who ever the smith is he knows what he does. For collectors a nightmare. 2 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 The implied original Sori & Nagasa of the blade is a little ridiculous. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 The smith even got the Ware right! But to be serious, whoever does them has some talent. The best Hada on that type of blades I have seen so far. Good job. If the smith took some training in Japan he could produce really nice modern made swords or offer other kind of services. Sayingit is a Japanese Samurai sword is of course misleading. I bet there would be a good market among martial artists for honest offerings who want to have them for Iai Do, Cutting Tests or whatever. 3 Quote
Stephen Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 Funny thing of it, i rather like the Ken. 1 Quote
SAS Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 komonjo is following the seller, interesting. Quote
lonely panet Posted February 5, 2018 Author Report Posted February 5, 2018 and heres another ken, it signed too. still impressed with the hada, but lacks a hamon. if this guy did habaki he would really get a lot of busness with the Iai and cutters https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Japanese-Samurai-Sword/232654000389?hash=item362b425105:g:kjwAAOSw5utadn0x https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samurai-Sword/292429705656?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D49924%26meid%3D905084c5fa7846fe8e70934ac57ebbaa%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D232645904258%26itm%3D292429705656&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850 https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Japanese-Samurai-Sword/232651766892?hash=item362b203c6c:g:biQAAOSw37Bac9xs Quote
J Reid Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 Heres another seller. User ID is a common Chinese name and he is located in China.https://www.ebay.ca/sch/changtian-sword/m.html?item=292429705656&hash=item44162b31b8%3Ag%3AGoQAAOSwK6pab9xd&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562... .I saw one of these blades the other day with a sort of ayasugi hada. Here: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/292428365994 . I was shocked. Definitely suspicious. These are high level fakes specifically meant to fool novice collectors. Definitely coming from the same place that komonjo is getting his. I asked him where he got them and he said that he was getting them in bulk on consignment from a dealer in Japan who buys them at auction in bundles. I don't buy that though. Here is Komonjo (Mike Yamaguchi) response to me. edit: seller says he is in the US but if you check the profile ebay says he's based in CHINA. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 I think even collectors would be happy to have these for under $1k, the high end production blades don't hold a candle to this sort of work. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 Personally I would not mind at all to get restoration work done in China if the quality and price is right. The market is tough and unfortuantely does not keep up to what a Westrn (or Japanese) cratfman often will have to ask in wages. It is a pitty but reality, If you take an average qualiyt sword there is just no economical way to put 700 USD into a new Shirasaya or 350 USD into a Habaki ... you will be buried. In the end I respect the quality of a craftman no matter where he comes from. This guy has talent and if he was offering good qualiyt Habaki or Shirasaya I would not mind at all using him. 1 Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 The shape on this one is really good! https://www.ebay.ca/itm/292428365994... if it wasn't in polish it would fool me. Just looking at the Sugata I couldn't tell it wasn't Japanese made from the pictures. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 Another approach: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samurai-Sword/292430367108?hash=item4416354984:g:lPUAAOSwFnxacJ0P Quote
