Ontario_Archaeology Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 Hello, I am curious if the translation on this sword is correct since I cannot find anything on the smith name given. Thank you, Matt. Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 This 佐源 could be read as Sukemoto, likely or Sukehara, less so, I believe. John Quote

lonely panet Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 who won it?? sold for 2600 Quote
Ontario_Archaeology Posted November 29, 2017 Author Report Posted November 29, 2017 No idea, i regret not buying the one you put up a few months ago every week! Matt Quote
lonely panet Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 and so you should, I posted it as a bargin price but on the other side researching a unrecorded smith in nice mounts for that price was a good deal. dealers would most likey as ask 4-5 k for one like that as a gendai. but lifes like that, we always pine for the missed sword Quote
IJASWORDS Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 The KAI GUNTO that Hamfish sold was a bargain of a life time. I am sure the buyer is ecstatic. The fittings were of the rarest type and top quality. And the blade looked top drawer. I am sure it would be called "museum quality". Neil. Quote
lonely panet Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 Tell me about it. I'm still kicking my self over it. But family first Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 I think we all regret not buying that one! Quote
Ontario_Archaeology Posted November 29, 2017 Author Report Posted November 29, 2017 What I have learned over the past year or so is that there is always another sword, you just have to wait for it. Matt Quote
lonely panet Posted November 29, 2017 Report Posted November 29, 2017 no, incorrect. hahahaha thats what we tell our selves, when we have missed something special. they are all one of a kind, and we just settle for something simular or better. that's why we all remember with extreme detail things we should have bought or never sold. the only one true thing is , ' we are only temporary care takers for the next generation" this is the only TRUE constant is this hobby. fades, trends, high or low prices all change, but if we do not care the them they will fade into obscurity. I say this a person who has sold many great pieces, several listed in books. I can only hope they survive to live for another 100 or 200 years but but but yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery and this is what makes today a present so I cant spend all my money taking my family fishing and travelling. 3 Quote

The signature was a sword test from the yamada family from tokyo. I think the blade was late edo and not a showa blade. I found that out as the auction was over. That blade gone cheap for that price. 1 Quote
