If you want to kill somebody you have *lots* of choices about the "with something".

Time ago a boy was killed with a fishing sling and a steel ball.

Psicologically challenged people is rising in number due to a lot of reasons and this gives to authorities the

reason to make senseless and useless laws.

Reality is that "The mother of morons is always pregnant" and sadly, unlike fora, you can't ban them from the society.

I haven't had any trouble, but if you try to bid on anything in their knives / swords catagories you are taken through a series of pages that insist you supply them with full credit card details to prove you are over 18. I refused to hand over details of my card (although I have a Paypal account so they know my bank details) so I was unable to bid. This was on some nugui would you believe. Seems like you have to risk having your financial details stolen to buy 'rust' thesedays.

Stephen, That is a very kind offer - thank you. As it happens this nugui was for sale by a very odd dealer about a mile or so from where I live. I tried emailing to say I would call and pay cash. No reply. I had tried to make contact previously with the same result. Odd?

Sorry if youve read this already, I posted it in the wrong place.

 

In a bizarre turn I have discovered that certain favoured sellers on Ebay can even sell whole working firearms.

I was looking through the live auctions on ebay 2 weeks ago when I found one selling a complete working Japanese Arisaka 6.5mm carbine. (WWII rifle) I wouldnt normally interfere but I was curious to see if ebay really adhered to its own standards so reported it, (ebay bans sales of firearms, ammo and parts) but the sale went through several days later. I recieved several replies from ebay's security dept thanking me for the info but they ignored the sale??!! I was tempted to bid on it myself just to see how ebay coped with it. Bizarre eh?

 

It seems that ebay is quite happy to facilitate the sale of firearms as long as they are listed by live auction houses.

A seller I have bought from was put through the 3rd degree several times by an ebay zealot because he was selling empty brass for reloading and yet I am free to buy working guns. This shows how frustratingly hypocritical ebay is. :rant:

End of rant.

I think the sooner the UK 'nihontites' get their own For Sale site the better.

HI,

I had in fact thought of this when the ban was proposed, but in order to conform with current legislation ,I would have to have the items either physically checked for authenticity and fill out many forms or have written proof that the buyer was to use the item for an approved "sport"(and fill out many forms and checks)

You can imagine the “red Tape” that would surround any website like this. Tracability,proof of reciept, disregarding the fact that many couriers will not transport weapons if they know about them and for insurance you have to state the item and its value,This is in fact why eBay removed all swords over 50cm I believe, because of the "paperwork" involved in conforming to current UK Laws.

Then there are the payment options etc etc etc....

There was also the concern that there would not be enough support for the UK Trade and sales site as it’s only the UK who is affected by this situation. Goods leaving the UK are not affected.

Best solution is a website like this forum, that puts collectors into contact with other collectors and they do the deals themselves.

 

However i believe that some of us need that "fix" you get from auction style listings and the possability of a "bargain",so perhaps someone will engineer an element of a site that uses trust (through feedback)to allow buyers to bid on an item through a closed bidding system like PM`s and the seller just updates the current price until the auction end date (that can be predetermined)Honesty is involved though.

A bid recieved at 11.30 GMT on an item ending at 11.30 GMT would be the final bid and anything after would HAVE to be Ignored as too late. (or sealed bids through PM)

This would not be a problem for most because you already do similar on ebay,you say £500 and they bid by proxy to cover another bidders high bid. (or i PM £600 and you say,the bid at the moment is £500 so that makes you the high bidder at £510. and so on)

Lot of work though.

Yup, centerfire, as it is known in Holland as Penvuur is legal.

 

In the Netherlands swords are free to own, but have to be transported without the possibility of use.

 

firearms are legal to own if original and up to 1873.

 

for all other things you need a permit, but thank god our re-enactment laws allow WWII weaponry, blank firing.

Selling of swords on ebay UK is completely banned from 10th March, see below. You also need to provide your credit card details to prove your over 18 if you want to buy cutlery. Clearly a spoon can be a dangerous weapon in the right hands. :crazy:

 

From 10th March 2009, all knives and swords except cutlery will be banned from sale on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie. The definition of cutlery includes those implements which can be used for eating, including cutlery sets, individual pieces of cutlery and antique cutlery.

 

All other items, including knives used in the preparation of food will be banned, including (but not limited to);

  • antique knives
    bread knives
    craft knives
    Stanley knives
    camping/ survival/ hunting knives
    diving knives
    kitchen knives
    Swiss Army knives and Leathermans
    all swords

Gentlemen

 

I hope in about 10 to 12 days time to launch "Nihontoden" a new venture dedicated to the auction of genuine Nihonto.It will operate as a specific auction site on the WWW.

It will be established with an Escrow facility for thos who wish to use for a small fee plus.. POSTAGE AND INSURANCE. It will also allow for a chat facility,but will seek only to compliment and not compete with other sites. It is hoped this will compensate for the actons of others banning Nihonto. It is a moderated site whose staff have reasonable expertise to spot fakes.

It is well advanced in construction and will I hope fair better than others who failed. We shall see. There is no apology made for specialisation,yet will I hope fill a need. It is up to others to make use.

Gentlemen;

Thank you all for your kind wishes. I am under no illusion what I'm taking on,and am very well aware we have some odd persons claiming to be genuine Nihonto collectors. It is one of the reasons the site is Moderated. I come at it from a slightly different angle which will become readily apparent as we go on. One of my principle objectives is transparency,so we all know just what is going on.

I just tried placing a bid on a tsuba listed in the sword category as I was curious what happens now the 10th March ban is in force.

 

I got the following message, looks like we wont be able to even buy sword fittings on ebay now :shock:

first off id contact your favor sellers and ask on fittings not to include sword in the auction.

second I'm working on being a buying agent for all you blokes over the pond. paying details and fee to be worked out. PM me if your hot on something, I would need monies in PP before I bid as I cant get caught with your not wanting it when I win it for you.
