  2. Here's a topic that popped into my head after a email from a friend. Who are the top ten school for the best iron. You may ask what the term "best" means ?? Construction, patina, colour of iron or Evan resistance to corrosion. I'll throw it open, as normally I only study akasaka and am ignorant to other schools
  3. Very nice, I have only seen silk
  4. the corrosion has taken metal away, why would you attempt to clean/restore something that would not resemble its original design. by the time you picked of the flacking suface would prob loose 60% of the leaf markings. also it has none of the dignity or quality of Florian B's tsuba its not a ko-tosho etc, its just a fancy drink coaster, micro frisby or paper weight now Or iai ???
  5. but were talking about gimei, not the sword??? some one signing a false name to a sword that they didn't make, to gain finically
  6. Also with nakirishi-mei aswell as shoshin, how can one be confident of what is fake and what is real.
  7. Now a drink coaster imho

  9. from what i read in the book THE Japanese SWORD buy sato, in which the above sword is shown, it became a trait to have 2 mekugi, for needed in the heat of battle with the new katate uchi. a extra safety measure it may be called

  13. hang that wanker out to dry guys
  14. give me time to dig up the photos guys
  15. and they dont fit the blade correctly, note the very clean or cleaned nakago but the rather deep pit in the blade
  16. could that be a gassen blade?
  17. I'm not a fan of waxing tsuba, I think it gives a false shine or patina
  18. Would or could it be from he Hizen area
  19. ahhh the photos, yep the plum blossum seals the deal. manchuko naval partrolmans sword is a mouth full. shame someone dicked about with it, i wouls say this type of sword wouls be limited
  20. Bruce, its not a repair, the hatching has simply been worn away from either long term ware or over cleaning. serial numbers on type 32/1899 troopers swords are very misleading as they over lap in areas and then there a re-issued swords. if you want a date check the front of the D-guard, you will find something there. its going to be pre 1920s as its still got the finger loop stud with was later abandoned due to poor performance the second sword is a molested piece, most likely a early naval patrolsmans sword or a "(policemans sword) ". if you show the back straps engraving I can provide conformation. I say molested as the habaki has seen soldered to the D-guard. so the possiblitiy of the blade not being correct, or its been put to togeather. with early police swords the koiguchi can be a stylized cherry blossom finished on the edge.
  21. When I can afford it I'll be buying the Lot I, Shinto and shingunto kantei books
  22. What's the hada and hamon like. Oh and the price?.
  23. iMHO, its a abit of a gamble. the saya donst matche the tsuka, so one of the 2 are mistmatched. the saya appears to very neat but the tsuka is poor not to mention the configuration of the retention methd of a leather strap isnt consistent with saya's mechanical latching notch in koiguchi. the blade with photos like that hmmmmmm, if theres a small hagire in the Ha, you have wasted your money polish it/ new shirasaya and it papers late sue koto- mumei, prob wasted your money/ or at best enjoyed to 12 month process. just my humble opinion
  24. im not dicking yo guys about mate
