  1. Also, another good find (similar to what happened to Dave). I found this kaiken being sold as an eastern knife some days ago. Bought for 120$. Unusual koshirae where the habaki function has been replaced by the koiguchi, and the space where the habaki should have been was used to store something(which is missing). The best part, i don't know yet if it's signed, god i need to remove that tsuka
  2. Something i got yesterday. An Edo-Meiji Mumei special work tsuba,Copper with silver alloy? (Toso-kinko schools). Dragon on clouds theme with some inscriptions on the back. Masterpiece quality engraving, too bad is missing the patina, but i will most likely pay to get it restored keeping in mind i got it for 30 bucks The pictures on the listing are down so sadly i can only show you the front. Can't wait to see it in hand!
  3. I have seen similar markings on a waki and a tanto i owned. I asked a Japanese dealer and apparentely, they were made by tsukamakers when the blades were sent to get a koshirae, and they were working on a few blades at the same time. I guess that makes sense Sinceresly
  4. I wouldn't worry gentlemen, there are already younger generations of collectors, you just need to wait for them to come. For example, i'm 19 years, and i have been collector since always almost. Started collecting Lego as a kid and moved to Militaria as i grew up. Now i have been interested in nihonto and katchu for around 3-4 years, since i joined a martial arts club, and i know of other nihontos collector around my city who are 20-30s. Also, i don't see many swords rusting in garages thanks to internet, people didn't had that in the 50s Jose
  5. I agree, i just wanted to transmit my opinion to the owner, that leaving aside the fact that might be cheap( i really doubt it,seems fairly recent 100-200years,but not cheap), i frankly would love to own a piece like it
  6. No way that's fake, and if it is, a great fake,IMO a beautiful blade, with good horimono, it's a Japanese dragon as it has 3 fingers, so no idea about the kanji
  7. Well, actually i have two names and i really don't mind how you call me.I have been some time in the forum and i know you guys are polite,im not getting offended Jose/Ubaldo/Josh . L ,they all are right Btw,i also aggre that 'Plain' is not necessarily boring, i just jumped because i thought you meant about removing what we now know its leather when you talked about the iron plate underneath, about that, my bad, sorry Sinceresly
  8. Whats the point if it will only leave a plain boring mokko tsuba,i would leave it the way it is
  9. Could that be on rather functional Bohi instead of decorative Bohi?
  10. Reminded me to this(Not telling you to do it as its most likely impossible to return it these days): You don't find many swords with addreses, also, after seeing that dragon horimono im kinda curious to see the full blade if you don't mind Sinceresly If you do not mind If you do not mind
  11. Dam,they are gone for good,it lasted 10 minutes, curious if it ended in someone from the forum
  12. Just saw this new listing passing by fleabay ,i think is quite neat, but im not much into soft metal tsubas, 4 mid-low tier tsuba 88$ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Tanto-short-blade-iron-bronze-Tsuba-Japanese-Samurai-1800-Japan-craft/222270541120
  13. I see his point, but i think that of not being worth cost of a professional polish is quite relative, they aren't now,but value of money fluctuate continuously,as it isn't a perfect nor absolute system. For example, at post-war the value of the dollar was way over the yen and so you were able to purchase great swords and mounts for almost no money. Also, right now people disparage showatos and gendaitos but that's because we still lack the 'time' factor when we come to judge them. They were also many crudely made swords from the koto period but those aren't mistreated nowadays, maybe they were in the 1600's I think that if you can't afford giving them an artistic polish, oiling and storing or passing it is the way to go.
  14. It is brass or iron?If iron i would say gendai as the patina seems recent, but also, workmanship is similar, i can't tell for sure, lets wait for a pro to make presence so he can tell you what do you have exactly Regards
  15. Thanks Uwe,also another doubt now you are here, i have doubts on a mempo on sale close to where i live, seems to be in fair condition but it's missing the nosepiece. Fairly big earlobes and is lacking teeth, some idea of which school it belongs? Much thanks
  16. Thanks Geraint, that makes perfect sense,i guess my poor poet being expected a haiku or something About the jingasa, its nothing fancy, common black laquer with gold crest:
  17. The ukebari had a little hole and it spilled some of its content, and when i opened it more to readd it the content(dry rice),i found that it has paper with a lot of written kanji(i mean a lot),is this common? What could be the content of the text and whats the point on putting it there? Thanks
  18. Greetings! Always a pleasure to see new friendly members
  19. Many thanks Morita san!,actually a date is great, was unexpected No problem uwe,you wanted to help and that was very informative anyways!
  20. Great,as i though it could be late edo or meiji, when these armors weren't made for being used anymore, i thought that could be mei,but that makes more sense Thanks Uwe,you are always there
  21. Found what seems to be a signature, hopefully date on an ashigaru do,but im having troubles identifyng the kanji as they are pretty worn out and im not familiar with them, https://postimg.org/image/88kfqz47n/ Any help is appreciated, Thanks
