  1. Well, you can't force yourself to like something, but you should keep in mind the context of these. Early tsubas belonged to times of war ,swords which were tools, so they are quite primitive. Late tsuba however belongs to swords which were symbols of status and thus, long time of peace allowed them to get more and more intrincate. I guess with older iron, you have to aprreciate, not just the quality, but also the fact that they survived so many generations and ended in our hands, imho (Thats wabi sabi aesthetic)
  2. Shameful disprayyy! Did she at least recovered her honor commiting sepukku? Jk, forgive my black humour
  3. Someday, media will understand that we now have firearms and that swords aren't war killing tools anymore. That day, this planet will be a better place
  4. True, that habaki is an impressive work of art on it's own
  5. It's a good price imho keeping in mind they are in polish, shirasaya, papered and the waki even have mountings, very nice
  6. Another option, (if you are still not attached to that beauty ) would be sell it (the good fittings are a plus) , maybe add a bit and purchase a modest blade in polish with shirasaya ,so you can appreciate the activity and workmanship that goes on these blades.
  7. Thanks for the assistance Jacques
  8. Yes yes, already did my homework, sorry
  9. I dont think this it's an actual antique tsuba, its an alloy Seems the tsuba of a hanwei Paul Chen practical katana/waki(http://casiberia.com/product/practical-katana/sh1070)
  10. Many thanks Sebastien, monju it's a school right?
  11. Purchased this yari, the seller though it was philippine, as it was brought back by a Spanish officer with 2 other actual philippine spears from philippines in the early 20th (sakoku end?). I'm having troubles translating as there are some rust damage on the tang. Signature is composed by 7 kanji, 2 of them illegible to my eyes , specially the part where the name goes, Any help is appreciated, many thanks,
  12. Yes, i aggre with that, the tang looks fairly modern, the chain is very cheap, definitively not edo. Maybe made with the ninja boom in the 80's?
  13. I supossed it was made by a swordsmith by the nakago shape and the file marks in it. Nakagos of those made by blacksmiths should look like the nakagos from any Japanese tool. I guess?
  14. Kurisagama by swordsmith on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SS-56-KUSARI-GAMA-/222501279936
  15. Well, depends on wheter you are searching for master pieces or merely decent pieces. Also about the good offers, you can contact the store and make an offer. I got a 250$ tsuba for 180$ and a 150$ for 100$. There is really good communication.
  16. I really like this one, very good pieces at competent prices, and very good communication, you can even make offers: http://www.edoantiques.com/index.php
  17. That's a way, however, it's quite difficult to find tsubas outside of America and Japan, and if you live somewhere in Europe outside of France, you have no choice but purchase from Usa or Japan, and being shipping from Japan much cheaper, there isn't much choice.
  18. Beware of arcadia Japan... They don't own any of the tsuba they have listed. Something you notice at looking it's listed items is that each tsuba they are selling is photographed in a completely different way from the other. Also, they won't answer any question asking for different photos or making offers. They simply copy yahoo Japan listings on ebay at higher price.

    Sukashi

    Owari, looks good to me
  20. Recently i adquired this tsuba, Nara school in hamano style i think? , It has engraved the figure of a man with a sword and a chinese straw hat? I have searched for Japanese gods with no results. The straight sword could be a ken or a jian, so i also searched for chinese gods without luck Any help is appreciated, Sinceresly
  21. Judge and enjoy the blade, not the signature, gimei blades might bother some people, as they can be seen as something not sincere, depends on the eye of the beholder
  22. There are many cheap, carbon steel blades, with fake hamons, and some models come in shirasaya like mounts from factories, the only way of knowing it for sure is to inspect the blade material in hand, i know my stuff, the best place to see what this is would be is the sbg forum, There are many different types of 'functional' blades
