  2. Stephen, Beautiful, everything looks top notch. Well done! Well deserved. -StevenK
  3. Stephen, Sorry to pile on but, perhaps you would be better off reserving your tsuka for something special. Is is of a quality that would have been owned by someone of importance. The fittings that came with it tell the story.....quiet, elegant, formal mounting worthy of an important blade. I like your idea of the lacquered same and copper fittings, green wrapping, etc....just not with THIS tsuka. -StevenK
  4. Stephen, Excellent!!!!!!!!! Bravo! A new project? -StevenK
  5. As the 19th century advanced the production of certain excessively decorative netsuke grew ever more elaborate. These "Netsuke" became jewel like in detail, ill suited to practical use they were the exquisite toys of those who could afford them....their sole purpose was to be SEEN. -StevenK
  6. Ford, Most informative, nice to be able to work with fact instead of conjecture. Thank you for doing this important work. This seems like quite the task...where does one make an end? -StevenK
  7. Dave, Try rotating the image before posting. -StevenK
  8. 'A NOD IS AS GOOD AS A WINK...................' -StevenK
  9. Lovely, and uncommon work. Thanks Ray. -StevenK
  10. Kurt, In the future instead of buying two- buy one, four- buy one. In the long run quality will.always please, and prove the better investment. BTW, for Tosogu I don't find Aoi particularly appealing. Happy Hunting. -StevenK
  11. Henry, The Hirenjaku is often associated with the autumn in Japanese art. _StevenK
  12. Thanks BaZZa, most interesting. -StevenK
  13. Barry, For me the signature is not discernible, perhaps the following may help, good luck- 1-Higher resolution photographs. 2-Try some photos with raking light. 3-Hilight the signature using chalk, powder, etc. -StevenK
  14. Ed, I have the hard copies, they are excellent books. Thank you for posting. -StevenK
  15. Stephen, A lovely piece or visual poetry. Nice pick up. -StevenK p.s.-the ocassional "DRAGON BREAK" is allowed, enjoy!

  18. rkg, RYUHOGEN is one of my favorites too, I can understand the pull this piece has on you. Wonderful. -StevenK
  19. Ben, Absolutely stunning, congrats. I see the influence of SANDOZ and BUGATTI in this piece, wonderful. You got a bargain. -StevenK
  20. Jay, Beautiful antique lacquer presentation boxes for tosogu were made, they are not common but can be had, why don't you acquire some. Unadorned pawlonia wood boxes are the perfect frame for tosogu. As amateur attempts at lacquering are usually HIDEOUS, I would give it a pass.....some thoughts are best left unexecuted. -StevenK
  21. Joe, Very nice job! Clean, concise, all seems to function well. Best wishes to you and all involved. -StevenK
  22. OUCH ! -StevenK
  23. Cliff, Check the forums guidelines and how to's, you will find info on posting a photo. A photo would help us help you! -StevenK
  24. Kinnan, Your tsuba appears to be made of Shakudo (a copper alloy). _StevenK
  25. Chiburi, Blindly scraping away at your tsuba is something I would not recommend, all manner of damage is conceivable. Even a wooden stick can damage a tsubas surface, dislodge inlays (or overlays), etc. -StevenK
