    Help on Tsuba?

It's amazing how the NMB can open new horizons! I will finally understand the meaning of my AKITA SHOAMI tsuba (chapter 9/20/23 of the tale of Genji))....
  3. Hi Robert, can we have a picture of this Tsuba similar to mine ?
  4. Twin tsuba but with brass: https://www.aoijapan.com/tsubamumei-heianjo-wheels/
  5. Thank you Hamfish for your reply.I even did not notice that this specific design was linked with this specific generation.
  6. I have recently purchased a sword with this tsuba which is signed TadaToki saku. I have difficulties to detect which tadatoki generation has signed it. Can someone give me a clue ? Thank you

    Snake Tsuba

    https://rover.ebay.c...tm/113892456656 --> $3550 . Well done for a cast tsuba
  8. Patrick, my additional pictures.... For sure the tsuba has been mounted on a sword....
  9. Everyday there is something to learn. I didn't expect my "false" heianjo tsuba to generate such an interesting exchange of views.
  10. Hi Peter, interesting views considering an old tsuba plate being redesigned some decades (century?) after to cope with the current taste. Does it mean that my tsuba was initially with a brass inlay which some decades after has been replaced by a suaka inlay ?
  11. Can this tsuba with suaka inlays be from heianjo school ? Usually inlays are in yellow copper.... Your opinion please?
  12. Waiting for batch # 4
  13. "The sennin Shiei (Chin. Tzū Ying) once caught a beautiful red carp. He set it free in his pond so as to be able to admire it at his leisure. He fed it well and it grew enormously. After a year its length was over 10 feet and it had grown horns and wings. One day Shiei knelt down and paid homage to his carp. It promised to take him to heaven. It started to rain, a typical association with the nature of dragons and Shiei sat himself astride his fish that carried him to heaven. The sennin Kinkō (Chin. Ch'in Kao, 12th cent.) spent a great part of his life drawing fishes and singing sacred songs. One day as he took a bath in the river, the king of the fishes invited him to his domain. Kinkō accepted the invitation. He told his pupils of his intention, naming a day for his return. Then he dived into the stream. On the day mentioned by Kinkō his pupils assembled on the bank. Astride a giant carp Kinkō emerged from the waves. After this he stayed yet a While with his pupils who took a vow never again to kill fish. Then Kinkō, and now for ever, disappeared into the stream." 14. You can google "Sennin Shiei" (Tzu Ying in China) - Found this one: Iron tsuba with Shiei motif - Dimensions: 83.4 x 75.5 x 3.9 mm - Iron tsuba of mokko-form carved and coloured with silver and gold iroe, depicting a sennin (immortal) Shiei riding a carp to heaven. Waves in the bottom and clouds on top of the plate. Sennin's head inlaid with shakudo.

  18. Tomohide collection ? Good choice and I really would like to see them in hand. What a beauty!
  19. Thank you Ford for your highlight and confirmation.
  20. With additional better picture, I would tend yo confirm Steven views on a late Edo kozuka "in the style of the famous Myoju". The inlays have not the subtlety ant the delicateness of THE Umetada Myoju school. Anyway thank you for your comments
  21. I wish i could afford one of them!
  22. I just received this mumei kozuka today. It is in shibuichi with the leaves in kaga zogan in shakudo. All elements make me think that this kozuka has an umetada school influence.Do you agree with me?

    Tiger Tsuba

I like the way the tiger tong is rendered.
  24. Thank you Chris for your interest but having the tsuba in hands I think horses are original with the plate. The mix of techniques make me think Nara school but i am not that sure.
  25. No clues?
