  13. They look just like any pair of riding gloves. They aren't old as they still seem to be fairly supple. Leather tends to stiffen with age. They are called Kawatebukuro, funny as it means 'leather hand bag', but, In German they call them 'Handschuhe', so who's to judge? I have heard them called Yugake, although originally for archery it seems a general term now. John

  15. Yes, when I was taught how to harden a kogatana we were directed to chisel the mei before yakiire. I suspect because it is more efficient to carve when the metal is safe from becoming too hard. John

    Thoughts.....

Not mine Ed. I wish, one like it is my holy grail. One is published in a book I have, and is in fact on the dust cover, where it is rather large, and to my eye favours the mei on the other Myouju tsuba I posted. I'll post a pic of the cover. It should help. I think you will see a significant difference. John

I wonder if it is in fact Myouju. Maybe late Edo Akitoshi product. 明壽 I include a pic of something I covet immensely to have. John

I like the idea of adding the mei by this process. No worries on losing the dangly bit, it is papered and has an oshigata and the process would have been recorded and in the literature at some point. It is just more tidy and traditional. Looks superbly well done too. John
  24. I have hidden a rude comment from public view. People don't have to agree, but, rudeness is a losing argument and not to be tolerated. Police yourselves. John
  25. Not a common name. There is an RJT smith Naoji using Onoki, connection? coincidence? John
