k morita Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Hi, I wanted this photograph. But I did not bid, because I had not joined to ebay. It is very regrettable to me. A photograph of disarmament from the citizens Just after ww2 in Japan. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %26otn%3D2 Thanks Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Hi Kiyoshi san, Why not save the enlarged picture to your hard-drive and then either print it, if you have a photographic quality printer, or take the file to a photo-shop and have them print it for you? John Quote
k morita Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 Hi, John sama :D Thank you for your reply and kind words. I save the image to my computer HDD and already printed it. The photograph was taken somewhere in the Yamagata prefecture where I lived now. Therefore, I was very interested in the photograph. Most of swords on the photograph are at the bottom of the sea now. A few swords on the photograph might had been taken to the United States(?). Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Ah, Kiyoshi sama, Great, still, it is not quite the same as the true historical picture, but, the next best thing. I should have known you would have already done so. John Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 A rather sad and dark photograph. Does anyone know what kind of 'American' troops these are? A copy from the computer printer on glossy photographic paper may well turn out to be better than the original, with the added bonus that you don't have to worry about preserving it carefully. Quote

Piers, thats a good description of this event Quote
pcfarrar Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Could email the seller and ask him for a high resolution scan before he ships it to the high bidder? The ebay photo is low resolution and full of compression artifacts not suitable for printing at all. Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Hi Piers, It is hard to make out, but, Airborne units had white wings on their shoulder patches. The 11th Airborne which fought in the PTO has one that looks similar. John Quote
Brian Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Morita san, If you ever come across an item that you wish to purchase on eBay and are unable to, please just let one of us here know, and we will be glad to purchase it on your behalf. I know it is too late now, but perhaps something will come up in the future. If the person who bought this photo is on the forum, please get hold of us, and maybe we can make an arrangement. Brian Quote
Bruno Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 I do not have access to the Ebay link due to country restriction. Is it possible to see it however? Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Piers, I was looking for more units in the PTO that it could be and only the Army Airforce had a unit with a similar patch. Maybe they just appear white in the pic. John Quote
Stephen Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 i have asked here, but no answer yet. http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... p?t=430227 Quote
drbvac Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Sad - and what a waste of history Wouldn't I have loved to be the one taking them for disposal knowing what I know now. Probably the troops assigned this duty figured just junk - as these were civilian blades God knows what went over the side. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 It looks as though the 'experts' are sorting them into different piles... for souvenirs, for preservation, for destruction, etc. Quote
Bruno Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Thank John and Moss. I got it. I will print it on photo paper, hope it will be nice. Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 The shoulder patch has been driving me crazy as to narrow it down. I was watching an old Lana Turner movie last night (B&W) and an officer had the exact same patch. It just has to be 8th Army Air Corp. John Quote
