Hi, everyone, I was browsing my go to auction site for some bits n pieces unrelated to nihonto and stumbled upon a seller who is offering mostly WW2 Japanese military stuff, in description he states that items are either imorted form Japan or from his personal collection, but whatever. What I found is quite nice tsuba, seller states in the description that it is 20th century, fair enough could be. I just wanted some opinions of the amazing people here what do you think? Does it look authentic? Is it really Meiji era tsuba or otherwise? I mean it looks really nice so even if it was contemporary i would probably get it. It is priced around 40 Euros.

Any opinion is welcome.

Best regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

My opinion is that the tsuba looks modern and fairly recently made to me.

But hey, if you like it that is all that matters!

40 euros is a fair price for a modern tsuba (again, my opinion!).

Onward!

I'm betting that is pretty modern.

Yeah, that is what i thought, mainly because of how the material was worked, filed down, etc..., I can see that but was not sure if this is modern modern or something from last century. You learn something new every day :) Thanks

But i assume that this is probably something better than averge cast replicas of today.

Martin,

I like the tsuba!

It is well done and maybe it is not cast, but machine cut.

It is nicely painted and shows great detail (my opinion).

I don't know!

Maybe it was made in the last century?

But it doesn't appear to have been mounted on a blade.

But if you like it, that is the important thing!

Onward!

Jean.

Once again, you just don't get it do you.

You stated "Compare with real TSUBA!"

Martin stated  "Is it really Meiji era tsuba or otherwise? I mean it looks really nice so even if it was contemporary i would probably get it. It is priced around 40 Euros."

Why can't you just support Martin in what he finds interesting to him?

He already has stated that he thinks it may be Meiji.

Real tsuba or otherwise, if he likes it, that what is important.

Why do you always have to put someone down with your "Compare with real TSUBA".

By capitilizing "TSUBA" what are you trying to say?

Are you a "TSUBA" snob?

Machine made, there are a few spots [literally] where the laser has dropped spots of metal on the design. Nakago-ana is a little "off" and the seppa-dai is slightly depressed. Not Meiji in my opinion and fairly recent.  Still, could you make it yourself for 40 euro?

Wish you courage! It goes really fast, and you won't feel anything.

As the doctor says: Don't be afraid, I've done this exact surgery already 60 times, so it will probably work out this time!

Ugh. As I cycle through 4 pairs of glasses, why do I feel I am next?

Having been eagle eyed most of my life, I get exceptionally self angry when I miss things- yet hate wearing glasses a second longer than I must.

Some of you have a much sharper sense than I do for parsing digital images.

Honestly Curran the $2,000 an eye was worth the money - I was so bad I could no longer drive - Glasses only help for so long. Now I don't need glasses at all and I watch the satellites going over every night - heck I can spot an eagle ten miles off - I wish I had eyes this good twenty years ago!

Wow how is this for being :offtopic:

When the Dr. told me I had a cataract, I said no.

I don't have a Cadillac, I have a Dodge!

Of course, I went out and got hearing aids after that!

Ha, ha, ha, etc.

Again, way off topic here but I had to put my 2 cents in!
