Rivkin Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 Nothing clearly stating water, but often boshi area is more instructive. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Hi Geoff, try taking a photo so the light is angled along the Hamon rather than head on. Quote
Tohagi Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 Hi, Yes, I think it's water quenched... A little bo utsuri IMO.... Quote

Tohagi Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 Maybe a translation problem... For example Trempé in french is quenched. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 20 Report Posted June 20 Erik, you mean, Geoff, being Australian, remembered his French and used "tempering" when he thought of "tremper"? 2 Quote

Brian Posted June 20 Report Posted June 20 It's incredible to see the shape of the sword that goes into the water, and what comes out. That is the real amazing part of the making of these swords. Quote
vajo Posted June 20 Report Posted June 20 Impossible to judge on that picture. Try to light the blade from angle to see activity. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 20 Report Posted June 20 Chris, that video is only about YAKIIRE and YAKIMODOSHI. The blade is not ground or polished, so in that state there is not much to see as far as activities are concerned. Also, the forge is dark for this process, so it is the best you can get with very little light. It is not MORIYAM-SAN who made the video, it's part of a series about sword-making. Quote
