Curran Posted March 26, 2025 Report Posted March 26, 2025 This was a popular fake back in the day. Lots of these floating around, but they slowly floated away to be banished to many a closet or mistake drawer. It seems someone found one. Maybe someone tarting it up a bit more than the average one. https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v1178415852 Never the less, AVOID. If you have been hitting the Jim Bean and find it pretty, bring it home to your own mistake drawer. 1 2 Quote

Curran Posted March 26, 2025 Author Report Posted March 26, 2025 Ah yes. I help moderate one of those groups. When asked to do so, the head mod had warned me we would have see a lot of the "what did I buy?" posts. Most aren't that bad, but there are some... that I know will get the poster flamed out of the group if I approve it to the group. 1 Quote

Someone got stung for around $250 USD. https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/q1169610247 or https://aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/q1169610247/ That is around $53 USD 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted May 19, 2025 Report Posted May 19, 2025 Guess who is back? https://www.jauce.com/auction/r1185366221 The price is right at the moment 15 yen! Anyone in need of a "Dancing Cat" paperweight? 2 1 1 1 Quote
Curran Posted May 19, 2025 Author Report Posted May 19, 2025 Two decades now of "Dancing Skunks". Milt Ong would make fun of these. Now that Milt has passed, I cannot look at these without mixed feelings that they are still on the market after his passing. Convincing things that has probably scared a few collectors out of the hobby. They don't look that horrible in photos, but they are a real landmine for newer collectors. AVOID. 1 1 Quote
Steves87 Posted May 20, 2025 Report Posted May 20, 2025 I didn't realise he had passed, sorry to hear, he had some really good posts on some of the different Japanese facebook pages. 1 Quote

If I buy her something nice she gets very suspicious and I am spending part of her inheritance, wasting money etc. Ideal cat tsuba would have the two cats fighting 1 Quote

Spartancrest Posted September 24, 2025 Report Posted September 24, 2025 Couldn't they think of other designs? The design can be found in "Chōsen Gafu" I do think a price tag of over a million yen is stretching things - print your own papers they will likely turn out more accurate! 1 Quote
Jake6500 Posted September 25, 2025 Report Posted September 25, 2025 (edited) Re-sharing this seeing as the design is relevant... Some of you may have seen me post this Yanagawa kozuka of mine before in its own thread. Tanuki and moon design done right! Mei is Yanagawa Naomitsu. Edited September 25, 2025 by Jake6500 7 Quote

Guest When Necessary Posted October 9, 2025 Report Posted October 9, 2025 Either this is a rather nice, genuine tanuki tsuba or the Museum of Genoa has egg on its face! Quote

Looks right to me. Quite a creative “badger tea kettle” design (that’s what we called that subject back in the dark ages🙂). But just to hedge my bets, my eyes aren’t what they once were. Quote

It is close to this one in the V&A https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O75227/tsuba-ichijosai/ This one in the Metropolitan Art Museum https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/642475 2 Quote
