Help with translation mei please!

Hi Davinchy,

There is something wrong here...the mei seems false. I think it has been engraved with an electric engraving tool and then polished over. The file marks on the tang and directly under the signature are different, and some of the strokes of the characters are "wrong", such as the left "hito" radical of Ju. Sorry, there is no point translating this mei as it probably has nothing to do with the sword itself. Maybe others can comment also...this is my opinion.

The nakago does look like it has been altered somehow; not sure exactly what.

The mei reads, "Something Ju Masazane Saku". I'm sure somebody can supply the something.

I would say they are trying to say Mihara Ju Maszane Saku

looks modern and could very well be a dremel or other tool that cut this, as already posted...

I second Mr.Trotter, who said about all there is to say. The mei is a gimei of the poorest kind. Translation would be: Ko To (no) Ju MASAZANE saku i.e. MASAZANE resident of old East made this. Think about it.

As already Thomas (Toryu) read, I am sure that the mei was intended to be Mihara ju Masazane saku (三原住正真作).

It's quite obvious, isn't it. The original mei was not fully removed. Some of its deeper traces are still visible. A new mei was added, including parts of the former one, in order to build a "reasonable" signature. It didn't work out well as it seldom does.

Yes! Exactly. The rest of the nakago has been refiled as well. The dark spots are from the original nakago and the coarse file marks to the left of the mei are new.
