For sale is a nice mokume style tsuba. I bought this a while ago and have done gentle cleaning with oil, handling, keeping in pocket, and oil + sunshine treatment to bring a nice finish back to the piece. You can see the patterns in the pictures. There is a remnant signature, but there is some roughness to the plate in that section so it's not readable. The mimi also shows fine forging waves which is nice on this style of tsuba.

Measurements

Length: 7.6cm

Width: 7.4cm

Thickness: 4mm

Nakago-ana: 2.6cm

I don't have the weight but it's a hefty piece.

I am asking for $275 for the tsuba. As a thank you for the members here that have helped me over the past year as well as Brian for maintaining this site, ALL proceeds from the sale will go to the NMB Message Board. In fact, if you buy the tsuba, you will pay Brian via Paypal and when I get confirmation the payment has arrived, I will ship the tsuba. Shipping is included in the price for US buyers. Overseas shipments may require some extra funds, I just don't know how much overseas shipping is, to be honest.

Edge (shot in 2 different lighting types so color looks different, it's the same tsuba):

There was a brief thread here on NMB about mokume tsuba:

Very nice bullfrog.

Be nice if more did this.

Edit. I remember when you got this excellent job of cleaning up.

Thanks for the tutorial and help. I think it came out rather good.

Awesome support Jeremiah! Thank you!
It's things like this and a small handful of steadfast supporters that are keeping us going. I hope someone out there recognizes how nice this tsuba is, and what a good deal.

Y'know...I have been trying to squeeze info out of a few FB groups concerning other collecting fields I engage in, and am starting to realize what a lucky and uncommon thing we have here. Most posts get some info...some get lots. Seldom do people get no help. Translations are almost always given and are accurate.  On FB...it is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone (not Nihonto groups) and everywhere on the net I am seeing less and less actual real info, and more waffle.
We are lucky. Really lucky. And whilst forums are definitely losing ground against quick and disposable info on social media, we are doing better than 95% of fields of interest as far as help goes.

Just FYI. Holding thumbs for a sale.

I hope someone buys this soon to save me jumping in

I think the NMB is awsome. It has its critics but I've learnt so much

If I keep better records (Mauro is a master of retaining, attributing and collating his records) I'm sure it has condensed 10 years of collecting by half

Jeremiah, what an awesome gesture, and an amazing piece! Were i not fully financially committed, i would be all over this one! Some lucky person will snap this up soon, i am sure.

A huge thanks to Jeremiah and to the buyer (can I mention the name?)
I am sure we all here appreciate the support that allows this place to function.

Kudos to J. for this.

I've been laid up for a few days after having overdone a masonry project. I'm only now catching up on various threads.

Brian is dead center correct that NMB is one of the few forums where information is abundant and educational.

The only other one I belong to nearly this good is the National Gardening Association.

NMB and NGA rock.

Everyone else blows chunks.
