Surfson Posted December 21, 2017 Author Report Posted December 21, 2017 Hi Wah. I bought the Kazuyuki with a friend in mine, and sold it to him. He in turn had Mishina San polish it. I will ask him if I can post photos. He loves modern blades and I love older blades, and we keep an eye out for pieces the other might be interested in. I also found him an absolutely mint Yasukuni blade as well as a very fine Minatogawa blade. He found me an amazing Sokan, a Gassan tanto and a fabulous set of Edo koshirae. So the answer is that yes, it was polished, but sadly it is no longer mine! Quote
w.y.chan Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 He must be a very good friend. Looking forward to seeing photos of this if possible. Quote
Ray Singer Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 For reference, there is a Ko-Uda Kunifusa (Norishige student) pictured below. The relationship to Norishige can be clearly seen. Also, an oshigata of a Norishige I own. 4 Quote
Surfson Posted December 21, 2017 Author Report Posted December 21, 2017 Really lovely Ray! This one has more nagare in it. I just love that hada! I hope to make it down to FL one of these days and hope to see it in person. Are you coming to Chicago next year? 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 Looking very likely that I will make it there next year. I will also bring a Nobukuni (late Nambokucho) that you may want to compare with your recent purchase... Really lovely Ray! This one has more nagare in it. I just love that hada! I hope to make it down to FL one of these days and hope to see it in person. Are you coming to Chicago next year? Quote
Jean Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 To come back to this sword, because of the kissaki, I will lean toward Uda 1 Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 Hello Bob, a very nice sword. Please let us know how it does at Sinsa. Also doy ou have any images prior to polishing? Quote
Surfson Posted December 22, 2017 Author Report Posted December 22, 2017 Will do Luis. No photos before I sent it. it was bent, had two sword strikes on the ha and the boshi wasn't visible. Lots of risk, but it turned out very well. Quote
Surfson Posted July 6, 2018 Author Report Posted July 6, 2018 I am told by Mishina San that it just received TH papers from NBTHK to Den Norishige, with a judgement from Etchu province during the Kamakura period. I am a happy guy! 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted July 6, 2018 Report Posted July 6, 2018 Congratulations! Couldn't be happier for you Bob. Now on to Juyo... I am told by Mishina San that it just received TH papers from NBTHK to Den Norishige, with a judgement from Etchu province during the Kamakura period. I am a happy guy! Quote

mywei Posted July 6, 2018 Report Posted July 6, 2018 What an attractive jihada! Can't believe I missed this thread earlier. Congrats - now onto Juyo shinsa in October! Quote
Surfson Posted July 6, 2018 Author Report Posted July 6, 2018 Thanks guys. Can somebody tell me whether the use of the term Den has any particular meaning in this case, especially since they judged it as being kamakura? Is that automatically the case on a osuriage blade that Den is used? I'm sure there are earlier threads about this, so even a link would be helpful. Cheers, Bob Quote
Ray Singer Posted July 6, 2018 Report Posted July 6, 2018 Bob, this should give exactly the info you are looking for. https://web.archive.org/web/20040613002048/http://togishi.com:80/Den%20article.htm 1 Quote

Surfson Posted July 20, 2019 Author Report Posted July 20, 2019 I realized that I never followed up on this thread. Here is a sayagaki from Tanobe Sensei attributing to Gofukugo Norishige and stating that it is a masterpiece. OMG! 9 Quote

Surfson Posted July 20, 2019 Author Report Posted July 20, 2019 We look for these treasures as a team and do our best to find ones that are distressed and preserve them. Hopefully this one will be cared for over many more centuries. Thank you for sharing the adventure. 1 Quote
