PNSSHOGUN Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 Could easily fool a new collector. Or close enough for someone to buy it as a wallhangar. Quote
Stephen Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 yep that patina, geeesh. If they ever get the habaki down could be trouble. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 The patina of the d-guard in the last picture looks like shoe polish applied yesterday and the detail of the d-guard casting is crude. This should fool only the unprepared. Grey 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted September 27, 2017 Author Report Posted September 27, 2017 GREY thats not crude cast work by compare to mid to late was dress swords. its on par with a average company grade type 19 dress sword. they made some average work, compared to early stuff ill prove it. once owned this odd piece that had a cast aluminium core that was lacquered black. long blade with name scratched on the saya. just look at the rough finish also I have never been able to make boot polish stick to brass, doesn't hold. Bruce Pennington Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 also I have never been able to make boot polish stick to brass, doesn't hold. Sooooo .... Hamfish, sounds like you've been trying?!?! Ha! Mental note to self "be careful what you buy from Hamfish!". Quote

Grey Doffin Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 Shoe polish was meant to convey phony patina. May not be boot polish but it certainly was done yesterday. As for the casting, I think there is a difference. There are some defects in the cast of your real sword but not in the mold it was cast into. With the fake at the top, both the casting and mold are quite crudely done. Grey 1 Quote
