Kurikata Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Hi all, This iron tsuba of 75 mm wide represents a kingfisher above waterplants plants in suaka and shakudo. Even if on the shakudo leaf i can detect 3 dewdrops (I recently learned thanks to this forum, that they were a kantei mark for Goto school), I don't think this tsuba is from Goto school. But in that case what kind of school it is ? Thank you for you comments and advises Bruno Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Why am I leaning to Mito? Don't know, just a feeling. John 1 Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 I had considered that too; the thickness of the carvings, Nara-like, sure. Just a gut call. John Quote
Kurikata Posted January 5, 2016 Author Report Posted January 5, 2016 Thank you John and Franco. My feelings wouls tend to Mito school too. But I wanted to benefit from "better" eyes. Thanks again Bruno Quote
MauroP Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 What about Yukiyama (雪山) school? bye, Mauro Quote
Kurikata Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 Thank you Mauro, I did not know this specific school. Do you have some information on it ? Do you have pictures of other tsuba from this school (Google results are very poor when keeing Yukiyama (雪山) Thank you Bruno Quote
jpelkazooka Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 I think it's a false one of the worst ever seen Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 Here is a tsuba showing similar construction, Mito. What do you think jpelkazooka (name please)? john Quote

Kurikata Posted January 8, 2016 Author Report Posted January 8, 2016 Thank you Jpelkazooka for you assessment on my tsuba. Can you please develop elements which make you see and think that this tsuba is "false"? Coming to "the worst ever seen" aspect, I cannot discuss it as everybody's taste is respectfull. More seriously, can someone give me information on the YUKIYAMA schools as Mauro has opened a door I am ready to go through.....? 1 Quote
MauroP Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Hi Bruno, I'm sorry I lost my references on that school (but I cannot have invented it by myself ...). An alternative reading of 雪山 could be Setsuzan (see http://jameelcentre.ashmolean.org/object/EAX.11112).Here an image from my archive (but I do not remember where it came from). Bye, Mauro Quote

Pete Klein Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 Thierry -- nice work!!! I am not familiar with it but it might very well be the same school from what I am seeing. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 Setsuzan was a previous name of Nagatsune Ichinomiya. The founder of Nagatsune Ichinomiya school. Is this the same school? John Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 Gentlemen, Surely, SETSUZAN is spinning in his grave! Respectfully....IT'S TIME TO HIT THE RESET BUTTON! Steven K Quote
