drbvac Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Barry has the term for sure - Sanmaiawasa -it is similar patterns on both sides - however - the one Stephen posted has Identical images - one side may have been carved the other copied and then they were bonded together ? NO way to carve both the same. Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Good evening all, I think the term is Sanmai - Awase 三枚合わせ Awase meaning to clad. Sanmai being three layers. Quote
Rich S Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Yes, pretty sure it is a sanmai- See my page at: http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/tsuba/sanmai.htm Rich Quote
Brian Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Yep...what I said above. 2 Sheets are embossed with the design, then wrapped around a central base and then carefully joined. Sometimes a rivet or 2, sometimes soldered. Ford would know better how they are joined. Quote
Stephen Posted August 16, 2015 Author Report Posted August 16, 2015 So we have that nailed down, now, do they have value other than what one likes? Quote
seattle1 Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Hello: I believe Bob Haynes considers them legitimate tsuba. Arnold F. Quote
